Project Description

Dear Gift Angels,

Please consider supporting my global outreach program that promotes health and wellness "Intro to Acro Yoga- Conditioning, Basing, Flying". My name is Karen Elaine, CEO of Yoga Music LLC, which provides online video and in-person training for health and wellness using the exercise modality of Acro Yoga, also known as Partner Yoga. As an AcroYoga Montréal Certified Instructor, I led all of the movement and exercise training, bringing my years of critically acclaimed therapeutic and functional fitness methods to facilitate a sense of empowerment and physical transformation for all participants. 

 

Participants serviced by these self-improvement exercise trainings include people new to partner stretching, people recovering from pain triggered by inactivity, and people interested in developing more strength and flexibility in their active lifestyle. Teaching in the Southern California area since 2013, I have led hundreds of hours of acroyoga classes, workshops,  and retreats. My collaborations include co-teaching at the semi-annual Acro Yoga Retreat on Catalina Island with retired gymnast/stunt woman Karen Castle, teaching at the International Big Bear Yoga Festival, partnering with woman owned Bralu Yogawear, and teaming with the Mystic Journey Bookstore and Capoeira Besouro Studios of Venice Beach,  California. 

 

The participants of my current in-person trainings are 70% women and 30% men. All gender identities are welcome. Age range is from 22-65, with the majority of participants at age 30. I began teaching my Intro to Acro Yoga sessions in June 2013 at the request of Jeff Siegel, owner of Mystic Journey Bookstore in Venice Beach,  California as a movement  modality service that promotes health and wellness. 

 

There is a global need for meaningful communication and raising of spirits. One finds all of these things in Acro Yoga by engaging in a supportive contact sport while making a healthier body through movement. My goal is to dramatically expand the reach of the participating audience through the online training. Yoga Music LLC challenges the social norm of those who participate in yoga. 

 

At the age of 54, African American, and built with a stocky strong body, I teach my classes from all three of the fundamental roles of Acro Yoga, guiding my students to learn how to lift others (base), how to allow one's self to be lifted (fly), and how to be the safety supporter for those in the pose (spot). 

 

Learning true balance is the end result for participants engage in these sessions. Students take away from class new skills in communication that they apply to their relationships at work and at home. Current and former students share the sensation of feeling empowered and gaining clarity in exchanging meaningful communication. A gender neutral environment is created in the Intro to Acro Yoga teaching environments as all participants share the rôles of base/flyer/spotter, allowing each participant to be nurtured and the nurturer.

Frequently Asked Questions 

"I do not have an exercise partner. How do I participate?"

Each of the videos begins with me demonstrating necessary exercises to build your strength and flexibility to more comfortably participate with a partner. Whether you have a partner or not, these conditioning exercises are a necessary part of your participation and development of functional fitness skills.

"I am not flexible."

You will become flexible if you practice even for just a few minutes a day these skills outlined in the videos. When I started my yoga practice 10 years ago, I couldn't touch my feet, backbends and twisting were not part of my practice. Now they are. 

"I'm too old."

I started my Acro Yoga and Ashtanga Yoga practices in my mid-thirties. Now, at the age of 54, I can say I am #FitAndFabulousOverFifty. With a little bit of practice WVERY DAY you too can achieve amazing things at any age.
