Project Description

Hi, my name is Shanzey Afzal! I’m a female tattoo artist. My shop is called Ink Minx, and it’s a mobile tattoo studio for women located in the NYC area. I apprenticed at Wyld Chyld Tattoos and worked at Red Blood Tattoo, both in NYC.

During my time working at these shops, I saw first hand what a strong market there was for a female focused studio. Women would constantly come in and ask “Is there a female tattoo artist?” And I’ve done that myself. I understand the comfort women feel with another women touching their bodies. I also want to provide an environment that aesthetically appeals to the modern woman.

Ink Minx is a mobile tattoo studio, focused on women, that is going on a tattoo tour to music festivals across the United States. As far as I know, this has NEVER been done before! A tattoo tour includes tattooing at festivals like Cochella, Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, and Warped Tour.

Ink Minx is seeking funding for marketing, renovations, and travel expenses:

Marketing:A professionally designed logo/brand/website by Emily Beleaya, a highly experienced web designer. Photography by Thaddeaus Rombaur who I’ve worked in the past and has been booked by clients like Warby Parker and Bergdorf Goodman.

Renovations: New wheels/bearings, construction of a bathroom in the studio, a beautiful vinyl wrapping outside the trailer to match our new brand, and a portable picket fence.

Travel Expenses:  ANY leftover money will be going to vendors fees, hiring a part time assistant in each city, and gas. I’ll be covering the leftover anticipated expenses on this one 😉

**If 173 supporters donate $75 to this campaign we will reach our goal in no time!**

This year- Summer 2018!!!! Starting with Jazz Fest in New Orleans!! Ink Minx has big plans for the future though, a new kind of adventure is already in the works! One day Ink Minx will settle done and create a holistic tattoo retreat. Tattooing has been a sacred ritual for thousands of years and I believe there is a deep personal process that goes into each tattoo.

Please email for more inquires and business opportunities. I’d love to work with you.

Jazz Fest, Warped Tour, Lollapalooza, Cochella. You can also catch Ink Minx in cites I’ve tattooed in the past including Astoria, Brooklyn, Montauk, Philadelphia and Portland. Ink Minx has also done events in collaboration with Harriet’s Apothecary and RE/IMAGINE.

People always ask me, “Why do women need their own tattoo parlor?” Female tattoo enthusiasts and newbies want to go to a tattoo studio and feel comfortable receiving an essentially surgical service, where their bodies are exposed. Currently, the most popular option available to them are male dominated tattoo shops, where despite the best intentions of the male tattoo artists, many women do not feel comfortable. These shops have other problems including lack of privacy, design misinterpretations, low quality tools, and an intimidation factor. Women need a better option, and that option is Ink Minx.

Ink Minx is not trying to be exclusionary towards men, but rather inclusive to a demographic that has typically been ostracized by tattoo culture. Ink Minx will tattoo all humans but will follow in the Riot Grrl movement’s philosophy of “girls up front.” Women will always remain priority to Ink Minx.

We are raising money on iFundWomen so we can go on tour with the tattoo trailer and work with women  all over the country! With your generous investment in our business, you are validating the need for women and non-binary people to have a safe, comfortable environment in which to get their tattoos.  THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
