Help At-risk Pregnant Women

There are pregnant women with serious complications such as placenta previa, preeclampsia, or other infections that put both those moms' and their babies' lives in danger. Unfortunately, there is an increased number of such cases. Some mothers are lucky and able to deliver their babies alive and safe. Some other mothers, sadly, end up losing their babies.

In both cases, they still receive a bill that they have to pay. And insurance doesn’t cover all costs.

These are pretty tough situations some parents in our communities are facing that demand emotional and financial support.  We are in a critical moment with the current pandemic and those who stand to lose the most are those whose lives are the ones we can save and change.

According to the CDC, Black, American Indian, and Alaskan Native women in the United States are two to three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women. The reasons for this are varied and complex, and perhaps with too many individual factors to effectively identify them. However, the divide itself is a direct result of systemic racism. Addressing some of the factors and serving the community of expectant mothers in Austin will help narrow that divide.

JusterCare aims to help pregnant women, specifically those with complicated or high-risk pregnancies get through this time with as much support as possible. We hope that by doing this we can prevent death, reduce trauma, and help these young families get the start they need. We provide financial aid for hospital bills, daycare assistance, access to counseling services, and we provide transportation. This could mean driving a client to and from a hospital visit, helping the family get groceries, drive to daycare or any number of other transportation needs.

While these may seem like simple things, already struggling mothers and families often lack crucial support systems. This is what JusterCare aims to put into place. The reasons for a racial disparity in pregnancy-related complications and deaths are complicated, but we can begin to address them with simple solutions. We can start by bringing resources to the communities who need them and helping every individual family we can.

Our program’s mission is to help pregnant mothers get the support they need during difficult and high-risk pregnancies. To that end, we are putting together a comprehensive and robust platform to connect our clients to crucial resources. That platform includes things like access to counseling services and access to a network of volunteers. It will help the moms in need to quickly get the help they need.
