Why GOLD❓
Times have changed—women can be Ghostbusters now!—but dudes still dominate the comedy world and access to it.
We love these guys! The Lonely Island totally slaps! Some of our best friends are very funny men! But men still define comedy. Standup lineups are still up to 70% men. Men are "comics," and women are ... "female comics." (Or, GOD help us, "comediennes.") Amy Schumer is STILL the only woman ever to make the Forbes 100 list of top-earning comedians. And as long as comedy is defined by men, it's not designed for women.
SO: Women don't have access to the comedy opportunities they want, whether they're exploring a creative side hustle or chasing showbiz dreams.
What to do? GIVE women access to the comedy opportunities they want. 🔥
🔨 That’s why GOLD is building a new pipeline.
Our classes, community, celeb/pro speaker series, mics and shows, professional network, and more build expertise, creativity, confidence, and resumes. Our members pay $300 for unlimited classes and programming in our community. Our premium courses range from $450-$750. We make it easier for women and other "others" to get into and level up in all kinds and aspects of comedy.
And the biggest part of the GOLD pipeline:
📣 Our digital sketch comedy teams.
Here's how we designed them:
Gotta say, our pilot went pretty well.
📈 So now, with your help, we grow.
We learned a ton from our beta cohort of teams about what our members need for sketch comedy success. Now you can help us provide the resources we know we need to give our next slate of teams the best experience, the most exposure, and the sweetest success. Here's where your generous support will go!
🌏 Big pic: Market opportunity
They say laughter is the best medicine. (It's currently tied with ... medicine.)Comedy today is a $328m business—and that's just clubs, even after the shutdown—not tv and movies, or the $105B creator economy, or even TikTok, which are largely fueled by funny.
And today, laughter, comedy, and humor are even more than that. They are job skills. They are life skills. They are truly transformative—at a time when people are craving creativity, connection, and personal reinvention. Businesses and individuals are seeking the benefits that pursuits like comedy can provide. More companies are "rebranding" laughter to boost employee productivity and satisfaction (Forbes).Demand for online arts and entertainment education is up 2000% (Thinkific). Comedy is not just nice—it's necessary.
With our sketch teams leading the way, GOLD lives at the nexus of powerful trends: the expanding purpose of comedy, the creator economy and creative side hustles, online communities, female-focused businesses, and demand for female-forward funny content.
Think: Coursera ($1B) + Chief ($1B) + comedy = GOLD.
