My name is Liz Welch and I am the owner and founder of Anyhow Studio - a community ceramics studio that offers classes such as Intro to the Wheel, and After Intro: Keeping the Dream Alive. We offer monthly memberships that provide studio access and mentorship to early-career artists, and we are the only ceramics studio in Providence that provides pay-as-you-go drop-in hours as well as public access to our equipment. Additionally, Anyhow includes studio space for two full-time working artists: myself and studio manager Mary Drake.
I opened Anyhow Studio for three reasons: to address the gap in services available to early-career ceramic artists and beginners; to create a supportive and inclusive creative community; and to enrich my love of teaching and mentorship.
I wanted to create a business that could serve as a prototype for the world I want to live in. I developed and implemented an equitable pricing model, center artists who belong to the LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities, and pay my instructors an equitable hourly rate above market standards.
Everyone deserves an art education, and Anyhow Studio’s proven track record has demonstrated that we play a crucial role in meeting this need. But, the studio has outgrown its physical location. Therefore, I have secured 1000 sq/ft of additional space next to my current studio, and have developed a targeted expansion plan that will increase the number of artists we are able to serve by 73%.
