Imagine, today is your self care day. You head to the store, walk in and proceed to the nail care aisle. As you turn into the aisle, you are bombarded with hundreds of nail polishes. Your day of pampering has now turned into a stressful project. You scour through each polish looking at shades and the names accompanied with each. After 15 minutes, you finally found a shade you adore but the name of the polish is a generic, fruit based name. After a stressful day, you’re looking for a polish that feeds your souls and affirms your confidence. Unfortunately, you have to settle for a polish that may be pretty in color but gray in inspiration. You cut your losses, buy the polish and head out the store. What you don’t realize is the little bottle you bought is full of toxic chemicals that can lead to mild headaches, dizziness or nausea. In addition to the toxicity, the little bottle has animal byproducts and was tested on animals. Your self care day is tainted before it even starts. Customers need a polish that is safe and inspiring. A polish that is safe for your body and your mind. A polish that is filled with nontoxic ingredients, cruelty-free, fused with affirmations and promotes confidence - introducing Harmon Polish.
Harmon Polish is a luxury nail care brand that creates vegan, inspirational nail products. Each Harmon Polish product is named after a positive affirmation to inspire and motivate our customer. Whether customers are wearing “Optimist” or “Gratitude”, our mission is to remind our customers they can conquer any obstacle. What’s better than having an affirmation on your fingertips? Harmon Polish was named in memory of Patricia Harmon, our founder’s aunt. She was the epitome of success, boldness, and sophistication. She came to America from Liberia with nothing; but made a life for herself and her family. As a nurse to her patients, she was selfless and caring. As a sister, she was supportive. As a friend to many, she was the voice of reason. As a mother, she was warm and compassionate. Finally as an aunt, she was an inspiration. Though she passed away from breast cancer in 2002, her legacy is a testimonial of faith and perseverance. She is the embodiment of the Harmon Polish brand.
Harmon Polish is more than a nail care brand - our mission is to promote mindfulness, calmness and overall wellness through vegan nail care products that are named after positive affirmations.
The Harmon Polish story begins in 2018, when the founder, Kemah Duopu, was living in Los Angeles and was abruptly laid off. Though she went through many trials and tribulations, her mantra was “If I have enough money to get my nails done then things are not that bad.” With that attitude, it encouraged her to keep going and drove her hunger for success. Kemah was able to secure a new job which led to her obtaining 3 investment licenses and moving to Houston TX with her young son. To quote the founder “I truly believe that creating affirmations and the upkeep of my nails changed my life for the better." In 2020, she wanted to materialize this belief and share her story of perseverance by founding Harmon Polish.
Launching in 2021, Kemah leveraged her stimulus check and her knowledge of social media marketing to fund and advertise her business. With that initial investment, Kemah executed a marketing plan that resulted in her initial inventory selling out in less than 3 months. In 2022, Kemah was accepted into the inaugural Goldman Sachs: Black in Business program, where she learned essential business skills and tactics to expand the business. In June, Harmon Polish was also featured in the EssenceFest VIP gift bags. In October of the same year, she collaborated with SurviveHer, a breast cancer charity, to launch a limited edition polish to raise awareness for breast cancer. With those efforts, Harmon Polish donated proceeds to SurviveHer to pay for an uninsured woman’s mammogram.
One of the greatest challenges to growth and sustainability for Black-Owned brands is access to capital. To date, our founder has primarily supplied capital for Harmon Polish by bootstrapping, a combination of income & savings. Kemah’s contributions helped increase sales by 50% from April 2021 to November 2022. However, with increased sales comes an increase of operating cost and a demand for growth. Kemah is launching her first campaign to help meet the brand’s growing demands. Below are the various categories of business to which the money will be allocated:

This is her first crowdfunding campaign & her chance to show the nail polish industry that Harmon Polish is an emerging legacy brand. Your support on the company’s first round of fundraising is much appreciated. In the coming years, Harmon Polish will continue to raise capital by pursuing grant funding, business accelerators programs, and investor contribution.

Short-term
The immediate crowdfunding goal is to raise $20,000 toward the growth and sustainability of the brand.
Long- term
The long-term goal is to raise $500,000. This would be used to secure a production warehouse to create employment, oversee ethical production of products, and expand the amount and type of products made–making the business more profitable and competitive.

Kemah is an inventive entrepreneur who has made major strides in the nail-care industry with her vegan nail polish company, Harmon Polish. She is a determined self-starter, who prioritizes goal setting, her drive was intensified after becoming a mother at the young age of 19. She has carried this goal-oriented vision into her product lines, particularly her Polished Goals Subscription Box. With this quarterly subscription box, subscribers receive the latest Harmon Polish collection, cuticle oil, an affirmation card and products from other black owned brands.

Her mission is to inspire and encourage those who purchase her products to embrace the positive affirmations and words that encompass her collections, so they too can be the best versions of themselves.
Kemah has stated, "Though I became a mom at a young age, my son instilled a drive in me that led me to starting Harmon Polish. In hindsight, becoming a young mother equipped me with the necessary skills and qualities to grow into the entrepreneur I am today.”

I created Harmon Polish to inspire people like myself, aspiring entrepreneurs and young adults seeking to discover their passion. I created this company for people who are determined to beat the odds stacked against them and break generational curses. Harmon Polish is for individuals that refuse to give up on themselves!
