Hanahana Beauty is consciously clean skincare and wellness brand with a vision of disrupting the global beauty industry. We do this first by intentionally keeping Black women at the forefront of our business in all aspects of the brand; from representation in our marketing to formulating our products with the unique needs of melanated skin in mind. Additionally, Hanahana purposefully embeds sustainable practices and access to information that creates a level of transparency never seen before between producer and consumer. We’ve created a holistic bottom-up approach to improve economic, environmental, & self-sustainable practices for women within the shea trade while highlighting their process through curation, collaboration, and education. Our three-pronged approach was designed to fulfill our mission through our Hanahana Circle of Care, curated learning experiences, production creation, and representation.
We ethically source raw ingredients from producers in Ghana to handcraft our products. We pay 2 times the fair trade price for shea butter, starting with the Katargia Cooperative in Tamale, Ghana. Since its inception two years ago, the Hanahana Circle has been able to offer biannual healthcare checkups to over 300 women and children in the Katariga neighborhood. We’ve provided HIV and TB testings, breast cancer screening, affordable medication during the healthcare days, and monthly neighborhood health education sessions and healthcare cards for all of the Katargia Cooperative producers and their families. We are able to do this from the awareness we have created through our brand identity and product creation. As this awareness grows, we can directly impact more women's raw ingredient producers.
