Fourthwear™ Postpartum Underwear

Nyssa is a new wellbeing brand and community dedicated to supporting women during times of physical and emotional transformation, launching with a focus on postpartum—otherwise known as the Fourth Trimester. Nyssa means ‘new beginnings’ in Greek and is derived from the word ‘woman’ in Arabic and speaks directly to our mission to address women’s needs during times of change.

We’re all aware of the heightened conversation happening around women’s issues. Much momentum is happening in the postpartum space, too. Celebrities with huge influence are now speaking openly about their postpartum experiences. And important shifts are beginning to happen at a policy level. All of this demonstrates that birthing parent’s bodies are beginning to be taken more seriously. Despite these tide changes, there are still very few products available to help provide comfort and support to people during postpartum recovery.

Billions of dollars are poured in to the maternity, baby, and self-care market every year ($491 billion, to be exact).

We believe that new mothers don’t need a wipes warmer. They need to be listened to and cared for with products that actually work.

This is why we created Fourthwear ™— an empathetically designed, patent pending postpartum underwear that easily accommodates an ice/heat pack for both c-section and vaginal recoveries. While there are a limited number of postpartum underwear options out there, Fourthwear’s functionality is new-to-the-world and was designed leveraging feedback from hundreds of new mothers to ensure that it uniquely solves the wide range of problems faced by people on their postpartum recovery journeys. We are three longtime friends and new mothers who are channeling our considerable experience in product development, UX design, journalism and brand strategy to bring Nyssa into the world— alongside a strong supporting team of midwives, pediatricians, doulas, therapists and business/finance experts.

Your financial contribution will support bringing Fourthwear ™ to new mothers for the final stages of prototyping with our doula, birthing center and midwife partners, collecting data from over 200 participants to optimize the piece.

We plan to bring an absolutely perfect item to market, leveraging the skills of our all-female team of designers, graders, founders, and advisors. Using a local manufacturing partner in Chicago, IL and beautiful fabric made from post-consumer recycled materials, we will produce 1000 more pairs of Fourthwear ™ underwear and enter the market this summer, launching on our website and an Amazon storefront.
