Project Description

  • Our mission is to empower girls by building their self-esteem and confidence to pursue STEM fields.
  • Our vision is to increase under-represented girls' inclusion in STEM careers.
  • 7% of Black women make up the U.S. population but only 2% hold stem occupations.
  • We provide hands-on, interactive stem programming that increases their interest and standardized test scores in Math and Science.
  • Esteem Girls Inc. has served almost 400 girls from the greater Philadelphia area including the Montgomery and Delaware county area since its official start in January 2017. Since the start of Esteem Girls, we have implemented a STEM After School Program, Math and Science Tutoring, STEM School Workshops, STEM Summer & Spring Break Camps, Science Saturday, and most recently, Esteem Girls Labs (nationwide chapters). The skills girls learn in our classes are invaluable and prepare them for future classes and their future careers at a time when women are underrepresented in STEM fields.
  • We seek funding to continue to offer free or reduced-cost programming to students. As well as to open a community "Esteem Girls STEM Center." For many children, the cost of enrolling in STEM after-school programs, classes, and camps is a barrier to entry, and these skills are not offered in all schools in the Philadelphia area. Other organizations that offer similar programming, price them too high, for low to moderate-income families to afford. We make our program accessible by making them free or subsidize some of the program costs. We cultivate partnerships with foundations and organizations that are also aligned with our goals of providing more accessibility to these highly sought-after STEM skills that will help our girls and our community.
  • Our organizations' programming is run through the tireless support of our Founder and Executive Director, Renee Harris. As well as, college stem and education majors, who serve as tutors, interns, camp counselors, facilitators, and dedicated community volunteers.
  • Upcoming program in need of support: Renewable Energy Program, January 16, 2021, through June 19, 2021. Program duration: Saturdays and a one-week summer camp. This program's mission is to empower girls to explore renewable energy careers through hands-on learning and mentorship. Students conduct hands-on experiments to learn about tidal, wind, solar, hydro, geothermal, and biomass energy.  As well as field trips, mentorships, and business plan development for their own renewable energy business. Students also get to create a demo product, logo, mission, vision statement, and website. $1000 allows one student to attend tuition-free!
  • Esteem Girls values individuals, organizations, and businesses that are in support of our goals and recognize the value our STEM programming can bring to the girls we serve and the community at large. You can make it possible for a girl to attend Esteem Girls programming. Because of you, under-represented girls can gain vital STEM skills outside of school hours. Thank you!
