Project Description

'Empower the Hopeless’ I am fundraising for a building to provide supportive services and training in an all-in-one site through my non-profit agency.  Unique Resources, This Is Who We Are, Inc. Which is committed to creating positive change for individuals and families by empowering their social, educational, economic and daily living challenges. Right now, working from home I can only offer phone referrals to other agencies that have limited services.

I need your help. There are many empty buildings that have the space needed.  That I would love to bring a positive change of life to those that are homeless, no income to low-income individuals and families. They want their lives back again. I had a life changing health event that totally affected my family budget.  The situation what we were facing was homelessness. Who knew it took 3 years for us to go through it all. I understand their journey clearly. You can't be judgmental of another one's situation. You must have an ear to listen. I do care to help the disadvantaged.

The time period of my 26 years working with homeless individuals and families even those about to lose their homes it was hands on learning their needs and wants.  We shared tears, cheers and hugs. Yes, I dealt with assisting with daily basic needs which weren’t limited. They needed food, housing assistance, rental assistance, utilities, grooming kits, gas cards, clothes for work search etc.

There was an agency I worked at in my home state Iowa. YWCA of Greater Des Moines my position was to come up with different ideas for programming. Then in time I developed a four-faceted program. I wanted to help with more extensive services but not to hand walk them in life. Just to get them to a point of being self-sufficient and independent by providing necessary tools.

I felt it was time to really have an input on the impact of their lives. I wanted to help with housing assistance and other programs. What I developed was Adult Literacy, GED, Job Training and Family Development and self-help workshops.  Also to offer low impact aerobics and nutrition workshops provided by the IA Extension Services. So overall exposing them to social, educational and recreational activities.

Doing their assessment made it clear where they could get started as a participant in the programs. Some actually progressed their way through all four programs successfully. Just to see the transition in their lives was gratifying. Your contribution helps me to  ‘Empower the Hopeless’.
