Project Description
Our mission is to provide the best hair care brands and products to customers around the country while providing the opportunity to support a Black-owned beauty supply. Also, we actively promote natural hair and encourage Black women to embrace their natural kinks, curls, and coils, because we are NATURALLY beautiful. According to the Nielsen Company, the Black hair care industry yields approximately $65 million in annual revenue and African-Americans consume about 90% of the products sold. Yet, African-Americans do not control the wholesale or retail of the products that cater to our demographic. Silk & Satin will change the beauty supply industry!
Silk & Satin solicits your contribution to our campaign to help us expand our product inventory and open a physical location. It is our goal to provide access to the best hair care brands and products to customers across the nation who do not have access to Black-owned beauty supplies in their area. Also, we will continue to introduce more Black-owned brands and products into the major market. With your contribution our physical location will service our local community, located outside of Nashville, TN, and warehouse our inventory for our online customers. The Campaign FAQs
How long will it take for the physical location to begin operating?
We project that our team will be prepared to service local and online customers within 3 months of signing the lease to our new location. Our website launched in July 2019, and we will continue to operate online during the project development.
Have you researched which area is best for your store location?
Yes, we would like to open a store in the Antioch area of Nashville, TN. Our target customer base resides in this community located approximately 19 miles south of the only other Black-owned beauty supply in the area. Also, this region of the city will allow us to afford space for warehousing inventory to service our customers across the country.
Do you intend to sell hair?
Yes! We are aware that our customers demand that we sell synthetic, yaky, and human hair for braids, weaves, wigs, and more. In addition to hair, we will expand our inventory to selling hair supplies and tools (i.e. combs, brushes, pins, flat irons, etc.) Currently, we only sell hair products via our website due to limited inventory space.
Will the funds received from crowdfunding guarantee the company's success?
No one is able to guarantee a company's success, however we are determined to pursue this project until we accomplish our goal. The CEO and creator, Marteka Lee, has a Master of Business Administration degree and has dedicated her life to the growth and success of Black-owned businesses.
How do backers benefit from supporting the campaign?
In addition to the rewards, all backers, regardless of the amount contributed, will be credited for their support of our vision. Contributors will be able to visit us any time, and we will continue to inform our supporters of our journey even after the Grand Opening. Your support makes you a part of the Silk & Satin family.
