Our Story

“Earth Angel” was a nickname bestowed on me on my first production serving as an Environmental Steward back in 2011. I was digging through a bag of trash on set to separate out the recyclable and compostable items when a crew member came over to me and asked me what I was doing. He was pretty surprised that there was someone on set this dedicated to this job and said, “you must be some kind of earth angel!” Next thing you know that’s what everyone is calling me on the walkie talkie and the name just stuck. To this day whenever I’m set, no one calls me by my actual name, only Earth Angel.

The Problem

A single film or television production can produce more than 250 tons of waste and emit more than 1,000 metric tons of greenhouse gases, with inefficiencies costing as much $150k. There are more than 1,200 movies and television shows produced in the United States every year, so the industry at minimum is responsible for millions of metric tons of carbon emissions. In fact, a UCLA study found the annual carbon emissions of film production in Los Angeles to be roughly on par with the city’s transportation sector.

Our Solution

Earth Angel is a full-service sustainability consulting firm servicing the entertainment industry, specializing in zero waste. We provide the strategy, skilled labor, supplies, and analytics to reduce the environmental impact of your favorite films, television series, commercials and live events. 

How do we do it?

Our solution to the problem of making sustainability stick on set is simple: we serve as the production’s Eco Department. We understand the demands of production logistics and have a team of trained professionals who will manage the sustainability program from prep through wrap, so shows can spend more time creating and less time worrying about polluting. Our internal team and Eco Production Assistants support all of your sustainable production needs from zero waste strategy, sustainable supply chain procurement, carbon footprinting, training and education, community impact and more.

How will your funding help?

Simply put - we need more angels! With your support, not only will Earth Angel be able to weather the production shutdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but we will be able to expand our impact and help even more productions redirect precious materials from landfills and back into our communities. 

While there are more polluting industries in the world, the entertainment industry is hugely visible and has the greatest cultural impact on society. With a mere ten years left to solve the climate crisis, the entertainment industry has a moral obligation to use that influence to embody and promote sustainability. Join us!

Our Team

Our team is made up of 7, with 6 women and 1 man. From Master’s degrees in Environmental Science to Certificates in Sustainability, we come from varying backgrounds but share the same fervent passion and urgency to standardize green productions.
