Surfing is a spiritual experience that Mother Ocean gifts to anyone who shows up. The current culture of surfing is extremely homogeneous on the surface in both gender & race. Just 10% of professional surfers in the United States are women. And, only 0.02% of those professional surfers are women of color.
For someone new to the sport, it can be intimidating to get started. Or worse, not considered even as an option due to lack of representation.
SurfearNEGRA is a 501c3 focused on sharing our love of the ocean with women and girls of color. Through strategic partnerships, surf camp scholarships and ¡Negritas! roundtable events, SurfearNEGRA's mission is to promote gender and cultural diversity in the sport of surfing.
We are kick starting a full force diversity initiative in collaboration with local surf camps around the country by subsidizing the cost for 100 girls of color to attend in 2019. Furthermore, we want to equip these girls with the basic tools they need to continue to learn and grow in the sport.
Your support will directly connect these girls to established surf camps in our network so that they can build their confidence on the board and life-long friendships in the lineup.
Your contribution will provide:
-2019 Surf Camp Fees
-SurfearNEGRA Rashguard or Wetsuit
-Surfboard (*upon completion of camp)
Help us shift the tide to create a more inclusive surfing community!
