D*ck and Donuts

Dick and Donuts is a refreshing look into the relationships of black urban femmes and all the foolery that comes with it. Set in Detroit, we met Nkenge on a journey towards self-discovery and love. Nkenge is a 20-something black femme lesbian who has recently ended a toxic relationship with her ex for the last time and is now back in Detroit trying to get her bearings. 

We are passionate about bringing this story to life.  But, as with many mainstream stories, authentic and realistic voices are often under represented and marginalized leaving communities like Black women, Black Femmes and Black Queers yearning for the experience of seeing their lives accurately represented on screen. Many in these communities have ideas and unique experiences that deserve to be heard and acknowledged. Specifically, they need to be heard from people who intimately understand the community and are equipped to bring these authentic stories to life.

We're helping to solve the problem of diversity in both the narrative portion of production and the physical creative work of production. Dick and Donuts gives voice to the real life experiences of a Black Femme from her own perspective and within her own boundaries. The production itself is being created by the work of Black women, creatives and artists, allowing each to contribute in a non exploitive and collaborative way.

We are seeking funding to shoot the pilot episode and accompanying trailer. We have the scripts completed for the full series, but need these initial elements to begin marketing the series to studios and distribution companies. As a boutique creative production cooperative, we need support in generating start up capital for this project. Any contribution helps, and we hope that our offerings will inspire generosity!

Black women, femmes, queer folk and gender non-conforming people comprise a large community that is often invisible in traditional media representation, but are hungry to see themselves in authentic stories. We are confident that once our story reaches the fullness of this audience, our return on your initial investments will be plentiful!
