• What is the mission of your company or project?

Our mission in KADOO is to help people convey their thoughts and emotions to one another through gifting. It makes the person feel cherished, known, supported and loved. We truly believe in the power of presents to bring joy and comfort in everyone’s lives. We love the fact that when people send a KADOO gift, they help spread awareness on sustainability through our reduce and repurpose Furoshiki wrapping. We also focus on selecting our packaging materials to be environmentally friendly. KADOO box is made in the U.S.A. using post consumer recyclable paper with vegetable based ink. Every little effort  in preserving our planet is a step forward to a better future. 

• Describe the problem you are solving 

In our busy world, where we often rely on social media to sustain our relationship, a thoughtful present can make a huge impact. We are delighted to be a messenger that brings happiness during quarantine, delivering our thoughtful curated gifts and connecting people, friends and family while social distancing. With our powerful message of sustainability, we have been helping our customers to repurpose our Furoshiki fabrics from rewrapping their gifts, carrying their freshly baked homemade breads, bandanas, head scarf to an easy DIY face mask.

Research also shows that most common wrapping paper is not environmentally friendly as they incorporate glitter, foil, and laminated plastics and making them near impossible to recycle. We strongly believe our Furoshiki fabrics, made of 100% French linen and 100% printed cotton, will take part to spread the message of reducing paper waste.

• What is the market size/opportunity?

We currently ship our gift boxes nationwide, within continental U.S.A., with a possibility to branch out to Canada in the near future once we see an increase of demand and opportunity from outside the United States.

• What is your company/product about and how does it solve the problem? 

KADOO is a female-founded gift box company that passionately believes in the thoughtfulness of gifting. We design well-curated gift boxes containing products that focus on artisan-made, sustainable, organic and natural  ingredients. We prioritize sourcing from local makers and women-owned businesses.  

Beyond the products and its origins, KADOO adopts the concept of Japanese Furoshiki  fabric wrapping that spreads awareness on promoting reusability and reducing paper waste. KADOO adds much more meaning to gifting, in line with their philosophy: “A bond that  begins with a thoughtful gift is forever cherished”.

• Why are you seeking funding and how will you spend the funding?

Going through our first year, we are seeking funding to help us grow. We are a small team of two and have been wearing many hats, from sourcing products, budgeting our financial and inventory, building our online store, photographing our products, designing all the design/marketing collateral, coming up with marketing strategy and social media management to fulfilling orders.

With the fund we raise through IFW, we plan to scale up our business, growing our brand recognition, increasing our website traffic, and hiring some extra helps in managing our daily operation.

• Who is on your team?

Meet the two founders: Yudhisty and Juanita.

Juanita has a background in design and she used to serve as a creative director at Galison, a gift and stationery company in NYC where she enjoyed collaborating with many independent artists, along with established art institutions and retails venues. Her love for product development and trend spotting, combined with her aesthetic styles translate into the visual creation of KADOO. As a mother of two young kids, whose most time is divided into juggling work and family, she understands the stress and the need to find beautiful and functions gifts. KADOO is an outlet for her to continue her creative endeavor and help people to create the perfect gifts.

Yudhisty works as the head designer for Go Dash Dot, an accessory company based in NYC. In the past, she was a handbag designer for many notable American fashion brands. Her passion of hosting intimate gatherings embarked her on event designs. While curating gift favors for her clients or sending thank you gifts to her vendors, she feels a void for unique and thoughtful gifts in the market, which she has finally found in KADOO.
