Our Story
Hello and welcome! My name is Sophia and I’m the founder of The Past Perfect, a digital clothing swap platform that enables users to declutter and refresh their wardrobes in a sustainable and budget-friendly manner.
As a former personal stylist and shopper, I know firsthand just how wasteful and reiterative the fashion industry is. Trend cycles create clutter in our closets and what we’re shopping for is sitting untouched in someone’s closet after they purchased it for a season or event. Whether you’re cleaning out your closet, looking for an item you wish you purchased or hoping for a sociable shopping experience, The Past Perfect is here to facilitate those connections.
Our Funding Vision
We are seeking funding to cover startup costs and to evolve our platform capabilities.
Our prior in-person swaps have been held at friends’ places and at college campuses but we’re hoping to rent event spaces to provide a more branded swap experience for participants. Capacity has also been limited at these past swaps so we’d love to accommodate our actual demand and host more participants in bigger venues.
As we build out our swap platform, we need to hire an engineer/technical partner for more specific capabilities that our users would like to see. We’ve tested the platform so far with college students and recent grads who express widespread interest in being more conscious consumers while on a budget that normally limits them to purchasing fast fashion. It’s our goal to code an intuitive, educational and fun platform for them.
