Student Maid began in 2009 as a way to pay for a $99 pair of jeans. Since then, it’s grown into a nationally recognized cleaning company known for building the next generation of leaders. Our goal is to provide our team members with more than just a paycheck: We exist to teach our people the skills that are critical to success and then launch them into the world to make their mark on it.
We employ primarily students—who are the heartbeat of our community—but at Student Maid we say that everyone is a student, because we are all here to learn and grow! While our team members clean toilets, they also take classes that we teach in-house where they learn all about things like relationship building, communication, empathy, problem solving and more—skills that have nothing to do with cleaning but have everything to do with success in life. Many of our team members move on to start their own companies and achieve positions within organizations that are directly related to what they learned in their Student Maid experience.
Like so many local small businesses, we are struggling. As soon as COVID-19 hit the US, we began seeing an impact on our business. Clients began canceling cleaning services out of fear of having anyone in their home or office. We made the decision to close the business temporarily for two months in order to keep our team members and clients safe, and we kept our people paid the entire time of our closure. We made this decision before restrictions were in place and are proud of sticking to our values and protecting those who put their trust in us, even though the cost to do so is devastating. As we write this, we will have lost at least $215,000 in revenue.
As a cleaning company, our margins are already low and our profits go toward the paid leadership development opportunities we offer our team members. Our #1 goal is to survive COVID-19 and keep our people paid and taken care of the entire time. Please help us take care of our people so that we can continue to help them grow! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
