It's about who you are, not what you do.
BEHOLD.HER unites women by creating unique, immersive events incorporating portraits, interviews, and intimate storytelling. We help unite multigenerational women by designing immersive and inclusive events incorporating portraits, interviews, and intimate storytelling that gently nudge women to step away from their emotional comfort zones, develop their self-worth skills, talk about unspoken obstacles and build new relationships (beyond professional interests) within a smartphone-free environment.
Over the past two years, we've developed partnerships with local businesses, many of them female-owned, which have positively contributed to the local economy and amassed an extensive list of collaborators. What started out as a photography project in 2016 is now a thriving community of women seeking to experience personal breakthroughs.
BEHOLD.HER has been featured in noteworthy publications like DC Inno, District Station, American University’s LUMXN, Modern Luxury, On Tap Magazine and more.

There are a plethora of pro-women organizations popping up throughout the U.S. And, while we're a teeny-tiny team, we believe in ourselves to do good by standing out. Here's how we do it:
1. Our portrait storytelling events are unique to us!
2. We go beyond the commercialized notions of "self-care"
3. We prioritize radical vulnerability in our conversations
4. We ensure a professional co-facilitates triggering conversations
5. Our inclusive events are mindfully designed for extroverts, introverts and everyone in between
You may be wondering, why Self-Worth? As women, we're taught to worry about others. ALL. THE. TIME. And when we're not doing that, we're focused on external - developing our business, maintaining our appearance, attaining equal pay, making sure we are safe wherever we are, etc. Most of us are struggling to give ourselves the attention we deserve on a daily basis while making ends meet.
The BEHOLD.HER series has provided an expressive space for women in Washington, D.C. to find acceptance, beauty, depth, empathy, and validation. And this year, we want to scale-up our micro events by launching our inaugural SELF-WORTH CONFERENCE.
This event is planned for November 16-17, 2019 in Washington, D.C. and is expected to host 250 attendees who want to deeply engage in the inner work needed to deepen connections, build power and accelerate change by challenging themselves to listen more and put themselves first.
The conference will encompass four themes - Self-Love and Body Image; Sex & Consent, Money & Guilt, and Community & Relationship Building - and will touch on health and wellness, self-development, goal setting, and intentional relationship building. Our mission is to engage women to lead their lives instead of feeling lost, paralyzed, silenced, depressed or frustrated. In defining a personal concept of self-worth, we believe the SELF-WORTH CONFERENCE will provide women the opportunity to live happier, healthier, and more productive lives, be it at home or in the workplace.
BABYSITTING SERVICES: We're working with local babysitting services to coordinate on-site childcare and providing a discount rate for those need off-site childcare during the conference.
ENTRY COST: We know that conferences tend to attract people within a certain income bracket. We think that's BULL$#!% We're making sure the entry cost is affordable to every interested attendee. We're all working to provide scholarships for those who need financial support. We will not hold back the people who deserve and want to be a part of this event.
ACCESSIBILITY AND SOCIAL AWARENESS: Not everyone walks and talks the same way. We'll make sure there are adequate breaks for those who need more time to themselves during this event. Our venue is handicap accessible and we will have ASL translation for those who need it. There's room for everyone at our table.
FOOD: Breakfast, lunch, snacks, coffee, tea, and water will be offered. All food options will be available (vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, soy free, etc.), and we're taking care of those who have the most restrictive diets or allergies.
SPEAKERS: We will have our four keynote speakers telling stories to segue into our workshop sessions. Speakers will include BEHOLD.HER matriarchs, experienced role models of our community, as well as younger, up-and-coming leaders.
WORKSHOPS: Each workshop is designed for a small group setting so that our female participants receive the attention they need to feel included and heard.
At BEHOLD.HER, we warmly welcome every type of woman.*
We host enriching experience for women in their 20s to 60s, providing them with a foundation that feels like an extension of their home because we believe community is the birthplace of success. Since 2016, our portrait event series has celebrated multifarious racial, cultural, and sexual orientation identities, and we're proud to have photographed and interviewed over 300 women.
*When we mention "woman," we are inclusive of those who identify with pesky pronouns such as cis, trans, gender-fluid and gender-nonconforming. We do not discriminate on the basis of age, race, color, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, height, weight, disability, faith, creed, religion, genetic market, mental ability, veteran status, military obligations, marital status, or any other characteristic in our programs and activities. We provide reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities.
Kerra from BUREAU is our Community Organizer and is convening our keynote speakers and workshop leaders.
Gigi from PURPLE RUNWAY is our Human Capital Manager and will be responsible for providing supporting professional staff like therapists, doctors, and any other personnel.
Adriana from FEMME FATALE DC is our Experience Maker, and she is responsible for enhancing our audience experience and interactive stations throughout the venue.
"We challenge our participants to ask for help, so we’re embracing our message and we’re asking you for your support in building this foundation with us."
For full transparency, BEHOLD.HER has no funding besides the personal dollars we've all been pulling out of our own pockets to make this possible for our attendees. We have no full-time staff and operate through the hard work of our dedicated volunteers. Let's face it, hosting events is mad expensive and it's difficult finding spaces where everyone feels welcomed, let alone catered to in a city as diverse as Washington, D.C.. Mental health is important and we want to continue to serve our community. A part of that is ensuring that we are accessible to as many women who need it as possible. We're not looking for this to be a one-stop experience. We will ensure that all funding raised is applied resourceful for this conference and for those of the future.
