Balanced Root Market & Kitchen

  Hi guys if you haven't heard we're opening our own mobile market in Sunnyside!!! 

  Like other low income communities throughout America the Sunnyside community  is a Food Desert,  meaning that the area doesn't have access to quality, affordable fresh food and residents are forced to purchase outside of their own community.  And as we know issues of economic inequality and systemic racism permeate our national food system.  

  If you drive through any of the urban communities, you will notice the similarities are the same no matter the city or state. There are an abundance of fast food restaurants, beauty supplies, liquor stores and payday loan stores consuming our communities. While farmers markets, grocery stores and gyms are desolate in these areas.  

   Sunnyside was once referred to as "Black Wall Street" because of it's prosperous businesses. It's where my roots are, where my grandparents and their nine children started several business and where I'd like to make a true change. 

Our goal  is to transform our  1975 vintage camper into a mobile market bringing farm fresh food, cold pressed juices, freshly prepared meals to Sunnyside and focus on issues like poverty, racism, lack of healthcare and joblessness. 

 Money raised will go directly towards the build out of the unit, including licensing, permits ,business insurance, POS system,  food purchases , tools , transportation expenses and staffing. 

  In addition to our regular 9-5 we sell juices and on occasion delicous meals on the weekends as an effort to raise additional funds for our dream.

• 15%percent discount for senior citizens age 60 and over

• Grocery delivery service for subscription box holders

• Care package programs for homeless veterans

 •Raised bed garden installations for families looking to grow food in their backyards

• Job programs for felons

• Monthly cooking demos

• Monthly community exercise classes

We understand that there are many potential pitfalls inherent with undertaking a project like this and are aware this project is a bold initiative.

We have two ace mechanics who specialize in conversions and can do all of the transformations necessary to make the mobile market a reality.

We also understand that a successful project is ultimately judged by the impact that it has in creating change.  We hope that this small, mobile, fresh food market will generate a ground swell of interest in the local foods movement, healthy eating patterns, and community support for the local agrarian economy.
