OUR TRUE NORTH
Atelier MBOKA, meaning home-grown, something that comes naturally, is a fashion and accessories brand inspired by our natural environment and material culture to design timeless pieces for the minimally bold woman.
Atelier MBOKA aims to build an inclusive value chain, working with manufacturers and artisans at different capacity. We consider manufacturers that are close to the raw materials that we are interested in exploring, ensuring that we are adding value locally and at the same time reducing our carbon footprint. We are committed to the people who make our products, ensuring their social and economic wellbeing.
THE PROBLEM
The Informal economy presents a hugely untapped opportunity to add value to raw materials, to produce finished goods. While artisans are plentiful, it is often difficult to first find and then work with them; primarily because they exist outside of the digital world. This is even more so for women artisans, who hold additional household responsibilities, which at times, limits their visibility in economic spaces such as physical workshops.
THE SOLUTION
This is why part of our roadmap is the development of a virtual factory platform, that will enable us to dispatch and manage orders to artisans remotely. The virtual factory is enhanced by a clustered model, reinforcing the capacity of African artisans and producers to reach a global market. By working in clusters, we aim to increase specialization in terms of materials and production, ensuring value add at source.
OUR CUSTOMER
Our products target the conscious consumer, she is passionate about her products, ensuring impact in the lives of those who make it. More so, she is passionate about style, and ensuring that each piece she buys is linked to her values, her sense of self. Our products are minimal, stylish and timeless. Starting with the Azita clutch, we are looking to roll out the Nude Variations series one piece at a time.
This campaign will help us in launching our business, helping us get ready for retail. Bootstrapping can only take this so far. The funds raised will go towards design and development of our virtual factory; strengthening marketing efforts, and help in the production and rolling out of the next 2 designs that form part of the Nude Variations series.
As a solo founder, I have worked on this concept for some time. I spent over 10 years in International development, working primarily on economic empowerment of vulnerable communities across Africa. After travelling across South Africa, Mozambique, I remained astounded by the level of craftsmanship across the continent. I work alongside some strong mentors who guide me every step of the way.
Your support will help Atelier MBOKA go to market, ensure the inclusion of artisans in its product value chain through the virtual factory platform; and grow.
Thank you all for your support, and join me in creating impact.
