Close your eyes. Think about the activewear industry. What do you see? When my best friend Taylor and I asked ourselves this question, our answer was something along the lines of: Skinny models, perfect airbrushed abs, no sweaty real-life people wearing these designs - it was far from ideal.
The fact is, because of what the activewear industry looks like to most people, it can be intimidating to put on most active and athleisure designs and FEEL good without the photoshop, and airbrushing. This takes the fun out of staying active, and healthy.
My business partner Taylor and I have a passion for active and athleisure wear - but more than that we have a passion for equal representations of the human body. Each of us are unique, with different characteristics and they should be shown off - not hidden behind photoshop, and airbrushing.
Throughout the years of our friendship, we have bonded over our love for activewear and often dreamt of one day starting our own line.
Taylor has always been athletic, growing up doing competitive gymnastics and cheering in college- she grew up counting calories, not ever feeling “thin” enough, and allowing her negative body image to completely take over her confidence. Over the last 6 years, she has become an advocate for body positivity and women’s confidence- constantly encouraging and educating others on body positivity and loving who you are to the core, flaws and all. It is really important to us that women learn to love every inch of themselves, and we want to convey this through BDY Collective’s mission. We are NOT just another activewear brand, we are two best friends with a fire in our hearts to redefine this industry and help women everywhere love the body they’re in.
I (Carly, hello!) grew up a string bean - I was 5’ 10” graduating high school and was a serious outcast. I fell in love with weight lifting and being in the gym because it allowed me to be in control of changing my body - I could spend hours in the gym, 6 days a week in order to see small results. I was not working out to be “healthy” and I had a very unhealthy mindset of fitness. I would have given anything to look like the “fitness models”. It took me years to be confident in who I was, and that my self worth had nothing to do with how my body looked. The current activewear industry does not promote an inclusive view of female bodies, and has affected female wellbeing as a result. Taylor and I are here to make this change.
We began sourcing fabric and designs that are comfortable, performance driven, with an all-inclusive branding that welcomes every BODY. Joining the BDY Collective brand is joining a female-empowered group where everyone is welcome to be themselves, and show off what makes them unique.
Your investment will provide us with the means to launch our first collection to the public, begin growing our BDY Collective customer basis and get our inclusive message out there. My business partner and I have a collective 13 years of e-commerce marketing and branding. We have no doubt that we will make this brand profitable, and accomplish our purpose.
By Q4 of 2021 we will be partnered with a female focused charity donating a percentage of sales to support their mission that aligns with ours. We plan on building out this charity partnership as part of our marketing positioning.
Become part of the movement in redefining what the activewear industry looks like. Close your eyes. Imagine seeing every female BODY represented, getting sweaty, staying active and healthy. Do you see it? Let’s make it happen - together.
