The Wave was founded in 2019 with the goal of helping women share their stories through podcasting. What started as a real estate company providing highly-stylized podcast studio space for women has since become a major online educational hub. The Wave offers free educational resources including over 100 blog posts, YouTube videos, and a weekly newsletter that has amassed a cult following. In addition to tips and tricks, female podcasters can find support through The Wave’s private Slack-based community. Once an episode is ready to review, your editor will send you a link to Frame.io. This platform allows you to play your audio file and make comments throughout the track at specific time stamps. You will also download your final file from Frame.io by going to the screen’s top right and clicking Download. When signing up for or using Swell, we don’t ask for users to identify their gender. If you identify with the mission and spirit of Swell, you are more than welcome to use our service.
 

When submitting a new editing request, you will not upload the raw files to our portal. Instead, you will upload your files to a cloud-based file and then input the link to this folder in the request form. A few popular cloud-based storage tools are Dropbox, Box, Google Drive, and WeTransfer. We accept links from any of these sites.

While we know that outsourcing is one of the best growth strategies available, we also know the sad truth that only 5% of all individuals working in audio are women. Which means that when we recommend female podcasters in our community hire an audio editor, 9.5 times out of 10, that editor will be male. It also means that the standards this editor uses to qualify what makes “good” audio is set by the men who taught him. It means that not for the first time, nor for the last, another female voice is being altered by a man. To eliminate this problem, we created an editing service where female podcasters could have confidence their voices are being edited only by other women. As a result, we are also creating job demand that will hopefully increase the number of women who want to become trained and work in audio production. If this sounds kind of revolutionary, that’s because it is. The Wave Editing is the first editing service of its kind. We also do a lot of other novel stuff like share openly about our hiring practices and pay our editors a thriving wave. 
 

We want our customers to form a personal relationship with their editor. For that reason, we pair podcasters with the same editor every month (even if you end your package and come back later). When you submit your first episode, we will send you an email introducing you to your editor. We encourage you to update your image in your Swell profile and share as much about yourself as you would like with your editor. The editing process will become faster and higher quality the deeper you are able to connect.
