The World's First Gift Registry for Break-Ups!
Rebuild better
Project Description
Our Mission
We want to make divorce, breakups, and separation a respected and dignified stage of life.
Divorcist allows individuals to build an infrastructure of support as they navigate breakups, separation, and divorce. We value and honor all types of relationships and all types of breakups.
Through our Registry, we help people find material support for their changing lifestyle while our content provides guidance and community. We are here for you, through worse and better.
The Problem
Almost everyone will go through a divorce or separation from a domestic partner in their life. Yet, unlike marriage there is very little cultural infrastructure to support this transition. With 26% of Millenials and 36% of Gen Z getting divorced, and Gen Z experiencing their first domestic partner breakups, there are millions of Americans expecting to be supported by digital tools that do not exist.
Market
Heartbreak is a universal experience, so the universe of our users is almost infinite. However, we believe the highest potential and the greatest need comes from serving women first. Women are more likely to suffer financially from divorce and are more likely to reach out to their community for support. With tools like Zola and Babylist already serving this market at different stages, Divorcist is a natural product to graduate to once a relationship ends.
Similarly, LGBTQ people continue to be under-served by publications focused on relationships and breakups. There is a proven need for tools and content that is inclusive of gender, sexual identity, and relationship type.
How we can help
Divorcist is the digital tool that allows the newly single to build a system of support as their lifestyle changes. With our gift registry, users can create lists of material items and services they need and share this with their loved ones and online networks. Our content provides guidance and community. Enhanced privacy and security features cater to those experiencing intimate partner abuse. The result is a world in which separation from a partner is seen as a respected and dignified stage of life.
How you can help
Thanks to early support from friends and family, plus a grant from the accelerator program we’re involved in, Divorcist is off to a good start. We are lucky to be lean and nimble--we do not have to invest in inventory or complicated tech. The money we raise will be divided as follows:
