Project Description

Good To Be Good Foundation is an intersectional, community-wide, grassroots humanitarian and advocacy organization on a mission to serve marginalized communities and help build a kind and equal world. We provide hands-on, restorative, empowering support for women and their dependents in our communities who have felt the marginalizing effects of gender-based violence, structural poverty, and social isolation. We believe that every woman, girl, and gender-diverse person deserves to live a life free from violence and systemic poverty.  We believe that empowering women also empowers communities and societies, and advances gender equity for all. In the same breath, we see the importance of creating a culture that embraces kindness and empathy as being essential to the achievement of true equality.

As a small, grassroots organization that is women-led and BIPOC-owned, which has been primarily volunteer-run, our efforts rely on individual and corporate contributions made by organizations like yours. We do not receive any government funding or hardship grant capital and have been working with a shoestring budget to meet the growing demands for services and aid work. With this in mind, one of our goals is to show donors and community members how they can make the most of their contributions and how impact can be a force for good—for all.

This year, our goal as a non-profit is to maximize our community-led initiatives, expand inclusive programs and foster voluntary engagement, but require financial support to help us achieve sustainable planning and growth. We realize that we cannot meet the demand of our programs or expand our capacities with the appropriate outreach team without financial capital and democratic access to long-term robust resources.

We seek your support for the following programs:

Women’s Entrepreneurship Group

Cohort will learn the basic fundamentals of turning ideas, talents, and hobbies into a potential small home-based business or financial self-sufficiency venture. This economic initiative will be virtual one-off group sessions or schedules will be based on sign-up registrations. Each entrepreneurial-focused session will cover the critical aspects of operating a small business and provide the necessary resources to support Participants in developing their self-confidence and relevant business knowledge in today’s labour market such as operations, marketing, and budgeting skills. Each session will be approached with a comprehensive, trauma-informed, and culturally inclusive lens and will combine coaching and mentorship on hard and soft skills. Participants will also learn about external resources and advocacy services available for self-employment, supporting them to lead lives of prosperity, free from violence; and encouraging them to equally and fully participate in all aspects of society and the societal decisions that affect their well-being and future generations. Target populations will include newcomer and refugee women, BIPOC women, and diverse individuals who have been affected by gender-based violence and social isolation and traditionally face economic/social barriers and chronic underfunding and underrepresentation. Funding for the sessions would be supported by donations from the general public and partnerships interested in advancing gender parity and inclusive leadership and addressing gaps in women’s equity. Costs would include hiring staff (full-time program coordinator, program workers), training, administration, research, equipment, insurance, care packages, rentals, and more.

Program Objectives:

  • Empower diverse women to take control of their economic power and gain financial independence
  • Provide culturally-relevant, gender-centric resources and practical support for Participants who otherwise wouldn’t have direct access
  • Increase women’s participation in the workforce and public life
  • Supporting development and vocational skills by meeting the needs of Participants, with a focus on supporting survivors and marginalized women, who wish to become entrepreneurs or freelancers using trauma-informed and inclusive approaches

Makers Program

A program hosted every summer which allows diverse women and young girls, particularly those in marginalized groups, to partake in small, safe textile and sewing projects to create eco-friendly hygiene kits for Menstruators who don’t have affordable access to basic products that are practical and culturally inclusive. The kits help promote wellness and local craftsmanship while supporting reproductive rights and inclusion for women and girls. Attendees will have the opportunity to exercise their abilities and creativity skills with the assistance of a volunteer instructor. Supplies and materials will be sourced based on availability and in-kind donations. The cost to operate the workshops would be supported by donations from the general public and partnerships whose purpose is to invest in women’s participation in peacebuilding and welfare. Program costs would include administration, research, equipment, insurance, rentals, and supplies.
