VIPeds is a pediatric primary care concierge service. We provide high quality, compassionate care to infants, children and teenagers. We provide comprehensive care in a family-centered setting. In addition to primary pediatric services we also offer services for the whole family including: medication reconciliation, vital signs, post-op checks, diabetes education and injection/medication education, IV hydration, & Botulinum toxin. In order to obtain “good health” one must be in in the best state of physical, social, and emotional well-being. We work with the parents and guardians along with the child to achieve the best health possible.

The problem we are solving is increasing access to affordable healthcare in a timely manner. Puerto Rico, as well as many cities around the world there is a shortage of healthcare practitioners, patients have to book appointments months in advance and people are using the emergency rooms and urgent cares as primary care clinics. By offering in home and telemedicine visits we in turn: Lower costs: Some research suggests that people who use telemedicine spend less time in the hospital, providing cost savings. Also, less commuting time may mean fewer secondary expenses, such as childcare and gas. Improve access to care: Telemedicine makes it easier for people to access care. It can also improve access for other populations, including pediatrics, and people who are geographically isolated. Offer Preventive care: Telemedicine may make it easier for people to access preventive care that improves their long-term health. This is especially true for people with financial or geographic barriers to quality care. Convenience: Telemedicine allows people to access care in the comfort and privacy of their own home. This may mean that a person does not have to take time off of work, arrange childcare or take the kids out of school. Offering home and telemed also Slows the spread of infection: Going to the doctor’s office means being around people who may be sick, often in close quarters. This can be particularly dangerous for people with underlying conditions or weak immune systems. Telemedicine eliminates the risk of picking up an infection at the doctor’s office.

We plan to start by word of mouth in the local community and to work in collaboration with public and private schools who lack full-time RN’s or APRN’s. We can offer immunizations, school physicals, sports physicals and manage acute and chronic illnesses on site at the schools which will allow students to have less missed days and guardians will not have to leave work. The market size/opportunity could eventually grow throughout the entire territory which would benefit hundreds of children and their families.

We are seeking funding to pay for the following items: website, marketing, stethoscope, blood pressure cuffs, infant and adult scales, thermometers, otoscope, ophthalmoscope, tongue depressors, gowns, disinfectant wipes, masks, gloves, syringes, alcohol wipes, bandaids, bulb suctions, developmental screening toys, skin glue, betadine, normal saline, albuterol, nebulizer machine, measuring tapes, silver nitrate, splints, sce wraps, slings, IV bags, tubing, IV start kits, gauze, botulinum toxin. Printers, ipad, and other office supplies.

As a start up I am the only provider, but as we expand I would like to employ a medical assistant, scheduler, billing company and an RN. I am qualified to do this as a Doctoral prepared APRN with over 20 years of healthcare experience. I have worked in hospital, outpatient and community settings, and have been doing telemedicine for over 10 years.
