• Will regular hand-washing and showering dissolve the vails? Think of the nail applique as a functional drysuit for the nail base. It keeps water out, until you take it off. The nail is custom so it is flush with the nail bed, meaning there should be no gaps for water to get under. However, the reason I designed the nails to be water-soluble is to facilitate an easy removal -- take them off for when you don't want to wear nails, for example sports, triathlons, etc.

• What is the environmental impact? Vails values and strives to have minimal environmental impact. 3D printing enables better usage of resources and allows us the make only the amount of nails necessary for the user, rather than the usual 24 guessing game. A recent paper from researchers at Delft University of Technology predicts that additive manufacturing (3D Printing on a mass scale) could reduce global energy usage by 25% by 2050. Our base material is made from biodegradable polymers that do not disrupt natural ecosystems. Our outer applique is still in development and we are working hard to ensure an environmental-friendly option is utilized.

• Do Vails fit better than normal press-ons? Our app measures your nails. We 3D print our vails custom to those measurements meaning our press-ons fit you properly and stay on. The reason you can’t keep all 10 of your press-ons on at the same time is because they don’t all fit each individual nail — leaving gaps and creating a pulling sensation of your nail bed.

• How do I remove my vails? You can remove at any time simply by unwrapping the protective appliqué and soaking your nails in water to dissolve the adhesive. No acetone necessary. No prying off press-ons. No more damaged nails.

• What about the glue? Every set of Vails comes with a clear biocompatible adhesive that leaves minimal residue on the nail -- similar to a clear coating of nail polish.
