I’ve fired the new kiln twelve times since I set up a home studio in January. The other night my daughter was playing with clay while I was throwing on the wheel and I was overcome with emotion. I’ve spent years volunteering in ceramics studios, but never thought I would have my own. For months I’ve operated on a broken system, but those days are now behind me. THANK YOU.
During my first month of setting up I’ve mixed, cured and tested ceramic glazes. I’ve created slip-casting molds of my hand-thrown vessels to increase production, and deflocculated clays. I’m immersed in the world of chemistry and art, and am applying every bit of knowledge I learned at The Contemporary Art School of Austin. It’s a relief to create a studio and work at home during the pandemic.
I'm working on orders and gifts, and the workbook for pottery instruction. I need some time, and will email you all personally to fulfill your gifts by mid-February.
Here's to a better new year!
