SPICEWEAR

Hi, my name is Hydia Hall and I am the owner and founder of SpiceWear.  I started my clothing brand after I moved out of Detroit, Michigan to Atlanta, Georgia in 2020. When the pandemic started, I had a hard time finding a job. So I decided to start a clothing brand not knowing that I would absolutely fall in love with designing clothes. Starting a brand has always been in the back of my mind, but I lacked the motivation to start one until I moved away from home. 

Problem: There are very few streetwear brands that are owned by black women, so there was very little representation when I started. Streetwear is a male-dominated industry, it is notoriously a "white" male-dominated industry. 

Solution: I want to inspire more black women, to start companies of their own and to further inspire other women in our community to do the same. There are a lot of women that are in the fashion industry but they're usually only modeling for other brands. I feel that more diversity would be a healthy change to this ecosystem. 

Goals I plan to achieve: 

• Most of my orders are pre-orders and I would like to start getting some of my pieces made beforehand so I can ship my customer's orders out faster. Usually, pre-orders can take between 3-8 weeks depending on the amount of inventory that is needed. This will also give me more time to plan out Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer releases. 
• I need to get my logos trademarked because my brand is growing rapidly and I would like to have my designs protected.  
• Lastly, I am ready to move forward with new products. I have technical drawings/ 3d renders prepared to be brought to life, but due to lack of funds, I have been unable to get those ideas sampled and put into mass production. 

I have steadily grown my brand from being a national customer-based brand to people all over the world purchasing from me. I never thought I would get this far with my company in such a short amount of time. I am forever grateful to everyone who has supported me thus far and whoever plans to support me in the future. It's only up from here!
