Project Description

Seedling Pediatric Therapies of Kansas City is a multi-faceted, holistic, and integrated approach for serving children. We instill confidence in their caregivers to learn the tools and resources to embed therapeutic interventions in their daily routines. Seedling Pediatric Therapies is led by a team of two occupational therapists with a passion for serving children in the environments where they live, play, and learn.

Our mission is to cultivate children sprouting into maturity through intentional therapeutic relationships centered on developmental research and best practices. Children and families in our community require therapeutic services to improve the function of their daily life. Sustainability and understanding of the purpose of home, childcare, and school programs will be the key to advancing the child’s developmental gains and family, caregiver, and teacher commitment.

Our vision is to be able to build a team of passionate, holistic therapists and healthcare practitioners, each with a special interest area, creating a wider vault of knowledge to support families. We will provide a platform for therapists to feel empowered to provide sustainable pediatric services in their special interest area and to have the tools to grow their careers.

We know the profound impact our services will provide. With passionate hearts, Brooke and Elizabeth have envisioned and are building Seedling Pediatric Therapies of Kansas City.

Community Outreach

We are currently working toward building a 501c3 non-profit to expand the reach in our city to provide therapy services to children who may not otherwise have the opportunity or accessibility.

Low-Income Early Intervention

We want to provide occupational therapy services to children who otherwise may not have the opportunity to receive them due to financial constraints or social burdens. We will provide therapeutic services by partnering with local community organizations like Operation Breakthrough. There are many natural barriers these children face; the opportunities to meet the rising need for developmental services at Operation Breakthrough are evident. The benefit of receiving occupational therapy services, specifically related to improving developmental skills in the areas of executive functioning, social/emotional regulation, sensory processing, fine and gross motor is clear: to prepare the children for success in kindergarten and beyond.

Foster Care

We want to provide occupational therapy services to children within the foster care community. These children have experienced multiple adverse childhood events (ACEs) in their short lives. We have learned through research that as the number of ACEs increases so does the risk for chronic health problems, mental illness, poor education outcomes, and substance use in adulthood. Fortunately we can prevent additional and negate the impact of ACEs through educating direct caregivers, learning communities, and policymakers about how to build a safe and stable environment for children to grow up in. As an occupational therapist and a foster parent I hope to support families by problem solving behavioral challenges, design child-specific environments, and improve physical and emotional stability.  My lived experiences allow me to be empathetic and intuitive to the needs of the families and my education provides a standard of excellence. In creating community relationships with Joy Meadows, Foster Light Co, Catholic Foster Care Communities, and other groups I am able to create connections and a web of support for foster families to lean on; improving the safe stable environment for the child to grow and develop.

We are sourcing funding options to provide valuable therapy services to support the children's developmental growth. The grant money we would receive would be utilized to pay for start-up costs of forming a business such as legal agreements, tax services, electronic health record fees, liability insurance, assessments, equipment, and marketing materials. We are also seeking funding to provide family-centered scholarships to fulfill this unique approach that will lead to more sustainable change in our community.

Thank you for learning about and considering a donation to Seedling Pediatric Therapies!
