Project Description
- My mission is to provide highly skilled, research backed, speech therapy services to adults in my community, who have been diagnosed with a neurological disease.
- Neurological disease is on the rise world wide and is the leading cause of disability. Many people with neurological disease experience multiple secondary disabilities, which increase their risk of death and decrease their quality of life. Some of which affect a person's ability to speak, swallow, and/or remember. Research has shown this population requires highly skilled & intensive therapeutic intervention to reduce the effects of these secondary disabilities. Yet, speech language pathologists, and other rehabilitation professionals, are experiencing barriers to providing those highly skilled, research backed, intensive services because of bureaucratic red tape within the larger health care systems (ex. unrealistic productivity requirements, treatment time restrictions to maximize insurance pay-outs, and small budgets for materials/adaptive equipment).
I opened Resurgence Neuro Rehab so that I can provide a higher standard of therapy to adults in my community; to improve patients' quality of life through research backed assessments & treatment techniques, without time constraints.
- The market size/opportunity is large, and growing every day; the population is aging and the incidence of neurological disease is on the rise. I am the only non-corporate or healthcare system affiliated, adult based, speech therapy clinic in my community.
- Resurgence Neuro Rehab is an outpatient speech therapy clinic, that specializes in the treatment of swallowing, voice, language, speech, and cognitive disabilities to the adult/geriatric population, specifically those diagnosed with a neurological disease. Resurgence Neuro Rehab solves the above-mentioned problem by being an independent practitioner, without the constraints of the larger healthcare systems.
- I am seeking funding to purchase the specialized equipment & test protocols for swallowing, voice, speech, language, and cognitive disorders. The equipment & testing protocols are very expensive, but necessary for the accurate and timely diagnosis of these secondary disabilities of neurological disease. I will purchase a flexible fiberoptic endoscope with stroboscopy attachment for the evaluation of swallowing and voice disorders; a surface electromyography machine with neuromuscular electrical stimulation for the treatment of swallowing and voice disorders; comprehensive assessment protocols for language, cognitive linguistics, and speech. I am committed to purchasing these items for my practice. However, I will be able to provide the quality of service I want to provide to my patients, faster, with your help!
- I am the sole proprietor and the only speech language pathologist at Resurgence Neuro Rehab at this time. I hope that with the addition of the equipment, I will obtain enough physician referrals & clients to be able to hire another speech language pathologist and an administrative assistant.

Q: Do you have a physical location?
A: Yes! I have an office in an integrative healthcare building in Concord, NC.
Q: How do you plan to attract clients?
A: I have been marketing to physicians, neurologists, otolaryngologists, allergy & asthma specialists, and gastrointestinal doctors within a 20 mile radius of my physical location. Additionally, I regularly attend local healthcare forum meetings, which is where I have received the majority of my requests to evaluate from. I also write a BLOG on my website that focuses on patient and family education regarding swallow/speech/cognitive deficits. I have a Facebook & LinkedIn page, and am planning to start a YouTube channel that highlights adult/geriatric services & resources in the Concord, NC area.
Q: What are your billing processes?
A: At this time, I will be charging clients, at the time of service, and submitting my claims to insurance through a medical records software program. My goal is to be able to hire a billing agent within 3 months, so that I can focus on providing therapy services. I am currently credentialed with Medicare and am waiting acceptance into the UHC and BCBSNC networks. I will apply to be credentialed with TriCare, Aetna, & Cigna within the next week.
Q: How much is typically covered by insurance?
A: Typically, all of the services are covered by insurance, with the exception of a co-pay. *As long as the provider has been approved (or credentialed) with the insurance company.
Q: Can treatments be done with tele-medicine?
A: Yes! Treatments can absolutely be done via tele-medicine. However, the instrumental evaluations are unable to be completed via telemedicine.
Q: What are your payment options?
A: I will take check, HSA, or credit card payments.
Q: What is your staffing plan?
A: Once I have 20 sessions/week, I will add a part time administrative assistant to help with scheduling and verifying insurance. When my schedule reaches more than 30 sessions per week, I will hire an additional speech language pathologist.
