The Realgirl Community needs your support because here is where college women learn how to heal and grow past trauma so that they can truly become their best selves. Our members are able to do this by leveraging their internal strengths to grow by way of the Mental Health support received from the real life co.
the real life co is a nonprofit community organization designed to provide a safe space for women seeking to heal and grow past trauma. We are able to do this by helping our members learn what their internal strengths are by utilizing programs like communications, personal development, financial literacy, coaching, group meetings and quarterly Workshops that foster an ability to look within and get to know the person on the inside; what our internal strengths are; and how to leverage these through any challenge. Our program encourages gratitude by making it a priority that our members give back by supporting another female. Together we are redefining beauty.
There are over 100-HBCU’s within the US with women accounting for 61% of that population. Our Realgirl Communities within each HBCU will provide Mental Health support to 100% of the female population enrolled at an HBCU our community is active in. For example, our 16-member Realgirl Community at Howard University serves the 71% female population currently enrolled at Howard University by way of the Mental Health events that our nonprofit facilities through our members.
How? Our Realgirl Community at Howard University have a growing podcast called The Summit, an active newsletter called Real Facts! that answers anonymous Mental Health questions from their peers and a Talk Show on Campus called, Real Talk! Our Realgirl Community receives the Mental Health support they need to be strong enough to create open dialog for the Mental Health of their peers.
We are creating Realgirl Communities at every HBCU and funding is needed to stabilize this program, hire additional Therapists, create more opportunities for community development as well as have a foundation where each community can engage and connect so that together, these communities are truly redefining beauty not only for themselves but for the geographic area they serve.
the real life co is a necessary platform and non-profit community organization because
- Trauma is common in women
- 5-out-of-10 women experience a traumatic event.
- Women tend to experience different traumas than men.
- Women are diagnosed with PTSD more than men due to cognitive and emotional responses to traumatic events.
the real life co provides the social awareness individuals need to recognize the signs of trauma and abuse.
- Every 73-seconds an American is sexually assaulted.
- Women and girls experience sexual violence at high rates.
- One out of every six American women have been the victim of an attempted or completed rape in her lifetime.
- On average, there are 433,649 victims (age 12 or older) of rape and sexual assault each year in the United States.
- Young women are especially at risk with 82% of all juvenile victims being female, 90% of adult rape victims are female.
- Women ages 18-24 who are college students are three times more likely than women in general to experience sexual violence.
- Females of the same age who are not enrolled in college are four times more likely to experience a sexual assault.
Our Realgirl Community heals the female who has endured this trauma because 100% of our members are statistically defined above yet they are healing and growing and creating space to be a support system for their peers.
I am honored and grateful to Howard University and our first Realgirl Community there! Our members are actively working to heal their self worth, understanding that inner beauty is the best type of beauty and this change is creating a safe space for not just the Realgirl Community but a safe space for everyone that encounters a Realgirl. Healing means those that encounter us are safe from harm because we truly understand our worth and our interactions reflect love.

- How does your organization help solve the problem of Mental Health support in women?
We heal, not in isolation but in a community. Our members are able to see changes in the female next to them and these visible changes gives them the confidence they need to support themselves through healing. When we tell ourselves the truth, have a safe space to openly express our needs, we allow room for growth. We are able to climb that proverbial summit with success. - With so many enrolled students, why such a small group within each HBCU?
We have an open interview process where enrolled students complete an application and apply to join. The requirements are that an applicant needs to start at 3.0 GPA, be community focused, willing to serve, including supporting your peers and have an innate desire to be apart of and create a purposeful sisterhood community. There are also keywords that our interview process uncovers to discern true desire and those accepted are provided with this opportunity for the duration of their college experience. Every female at an HBCU has their Mental Health supported, either directly or indirectly. - Who provides the Mental Health Support to your members?
