Put Black-Owned Businesses in the Spotlight

August 8th marked the launch of a new website, BLK OCEANS, showcasing the best in Black-owned businesses across four categories: lifestyle, fashion, beauty, and kids. 

The name, BLK OCEANS, comes from Maya Angelou’s poem, Still I Rise:

I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.

As a team of one, in less than eight weeks, I've interviewed over 45 Black founders, gained over 1,500 followers on Instagram, and most importantly, I've received an outpouring of support and gratitude from the community. 

With lofty goals of growth, I am embarking on an aggressive marketing strategy to ensure the stories of these founders and their incredible brands reach more people. For this reason, I am raising $5,000 in startup costs to cover the following expenses:

Website Fees
Marketing (paid ads across Google, LinkedIn, and Instagram)
PR (press release distribution) 
Legal Fees (LLC, copyright, trademark) 
Software & Hardware Costs
