Project Description

  • Our mission is two fold- to help solve the lifeguarding shortage by training in at least 30 high qualified competent new lifeguards new year and to help prevent drownings by teaching at least 100 children to swim annually.
  • In the current situation, most swimming schools are short staffed and have a wait list. People are waiting months or even years to get into proper lessons. Additionally, many pools are shortening hours due to lack of staffing.
  • Our market is centered in Cleveland Heights. Our goal is to teach between 100-200 kids to swim each year, with a special focus on opportunities for kids with developmental delays or other special needs.
  • We have the plans all drawn up for our new pool and the mortgage covers most of the cost. We are short about $30,000 which we are trying to raise through other ways.
  • Mrs. Shira Goldsmith is the founder and primary worker in Goldsmith Swim and More. A licensed intervention specialist  and lifeguard instructor, Mrs. Shira Goldsmith personally teaches most of the lessons. I also hire approximately 3-4 lifeguards (who I personally train) each season to assist with lifeguarding the pool and to help with group lessons.
  • Thank your for any help you can offer us.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Who is Mrs. Shira Goldsmith? Mrs. Shira Goldsmith is the founder of Goldsmith Swim and More. She is licensed intervention specialist in Cleveland and has a Masters degree in Special Education. Swimming is her passion and where she can be found whenever she has a free moment. Approximately 10 years ago, Mrs. Goldsmith had a back injury. No longer able to play basketball or run, she started swimming daily for exercise and recuperation and she hasn't stopped since.  She is a lifeguard instructor as well as a CPR and First Aid instructor. She offers certifications both with American Red Cross and American Heart Association.

What makes Goldsmith Swim and More different for a more traditional swim school? Goldsmith Swim and More is a small home based business with a personal touch. All lessons are taught by an adult with years of experience and when you receive lessons, you have the pool to yourself. This helps reduce a lot of anxiety which is a struggle for many neurodivergent kids  when learning in a new place with a lot of strangers.

I have unique needs, can you help me? Individual needs are our specialty. If your kid is scared of the water, needs more time to get used to the water before the lesson starts, has physical disabilities and needs more than one staff member present at lessons, please contact us and we will do our best to help.

Why do you need funding for a for profit business? There is a tremendous amount of money required upfront to make our business successful. We have taken out loans to pay for most of it but are short by a small amount. Any amount , big or small, will help us get closer to our goals.

How do you know that your business will succeed?  In Summer 2022, Mrs. Goldsmith serviced over 100 kids and had over 100 more on a waiting list. There is currently more of a demand for swimming and lifeguarding lessons then there are providers available to teach.
