Project Description

We are excited to introduce you to a groundbreaking initiative that may transform the landscape of breast cancer detection, the Pulmostics BreathSense™ 1000. We ask you to join  our mission to revolutionize screening and save countless lives.

The Problem: A Global Breast Cancer Crisis

Breast cancer is a pressing global health challenge, 12% of all women’s cancer is breast cancer.

More than 2.8 million new cases are diagnosed annually. Alarming 70% of breast cancer cases are diagnosed at stage 3 or later.  Late stage diagnosis means poor outcomes,(death) high treatment costs.  Those women who survive carry the scars for life. The widespread use of mammograms is often hindered by  high costs, invasiveness, and social barriers, leaving over 2 billion women without access to early detection.

The Solution: Breath Analysis for Early Detection

Pulmostics' BreathSense™ 1000 – is a  cutting-edge clinical instrument that can rapidly analyze a patient’s breath and identify volatile organic compounds (VOCs) indicative of breast cancer. This non-invasive, painless, and rapid technology offers an easy, socially acceptable alternative to mammograms. In just five minutes, a breath sample can provide insights that can save lives.

Our Partnership and Progress

We are working on both sided of the Pacific Ocean to develop a new means to screen for breast cancer.

We are proud to report that we are collaborating  with Christus Muguerza Hospital in Monterrey, Mexico, to conduct a large scale trial to validate breath analysis as a screening tool.   Christus Muguerza is a leading research and treatment hospital and  a major player in healthcare innovation. Through this  large-scale clinical trial, we aim to validate breath analyses as an effective screening method for breast cancer.    We also have collaboration efforts underway in China, where we plan on a clinical trial of 5000 women to validate and improve the detection algrithm

We are introducing Sis Moe Moe Nay a talented self-taught young artist from Myanmar.    Starting with a with a chance discovery on Instagram a seven year friendship ensued.   Maggie was especially fond of Sis' paintings because they capture not only the beauty of the culture, the people and the birds of south east Asia, but they also capture the voice and spirt of the people who live there.   These paintings are not simply pigments on canvas, but windows to the deepest emotions and the beauty that resides within each of us.

We asked Sis if we could print copies her paintings as unique and personal incentives for donors to Pulmostics’ Campaign. "For Auntie Maggie",  her approval came without hesitation.  Sis’s strokes capture the essence of hope, struggle, and vitality that characterize those facing the challenge of cancer.   By enabling us to make copies of these paintings as gifts for those who contribute to our cause at Pulmostics, we are weaving an even stronger bond between SIS's artistic passion and the medical mission that drives us.

For a donation of $100 or more, you can select one of three paintings.   We will send you a beautiful 16 x 20 print of the painting on canvas,  Suitable for framing.   Each painting has a title.   Please give us the title which corresponds to the painting you wish to receive.   If you wish to purchase the original painting please contact us and we will forward your inquiry to the artist.

The Campaign FAQs

What is Breath Analysis?

Breath Analysis is a method for gaining information on the clinica state of an individual by monitoring the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) preseent in the exhaled breath.   VOCs in exhaled breath can represent biomarkers for some pathologies:  lung cancer, breast cancer, asthma, COPD.  pneumonia ect.

Does Breath Analysis Work?

Dr. Michael Philips of Menssana Research has published papers on the use of breath analysis to identify breast cancer, lung cancer,  tuberculosis infuenza and other diseases.   Other researchers using different insturmentation have also published papers that demonstrate that breath contains information on our health.

Where is this trial being conducted.

We are conducting our trial at Christus Muguerza Hospital in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico

Why are you doing the research in Mexico?

The research is being conducted in Mexico for two reasons. cost and need.    The cost of doing this trial in Mexico is less than one quarter of the cost of conducting the trial in the United States.    There is a greater need for cost effective, culturally acceptable screening technology in Mexico than the United States.   68% of the women in the United States follow the FDA's recommended mammogram screening schedule.  In Mexico about 1/3 of the women get screened for breast cancer. The median breast cancer case in Mexico is diagnosed at stage 3.  In contrast the median stage of breast cancer in the United State is stage 2.

When will the screening technology be available in the United States?

After completing our trials in Mexico we anticipate starting clinical trials in the United States.   We cannot predict when these trials will be complete or how long it will take for FDA approval.
