Who We Are: Natural Measures Cycling

Natural Measures Cycling is an extraordinary indoor cycling boutique, with an energy-driven twist on urban spinning. Our goal is to promote an out-of-the-box, cardiovascular fitness technique, that engages the body and soul; through choreographed, rhythmic dance moves. At Natural Measures, spinning is coupled with up-tempo, dynamic, and energizing music; that drives your entire body to the beat! This fitness program will provide health and wellness to the North East side of Indianapolis and the surrounding area, using an exciting alternative to typical cardio and strength training methods.

Who I AM: Vikki- Owner and Coach

I recently reinvented my love for fashion and styling into a personal shopping and wardrobing business; in which I combine my life and image coaching skills. Doing so has afforded me the opportunity to use my own testimony to inspire other overcomers, and I plan to do the same with Natural Measures! I believe my story, knowledge, challenges, and victories will motivate clients of all ages to tap into the best version of themselves! As an African American Woman, I am proud to serve this community; as I too have suffered from the challenges that many others face (single-motherhood, lack of income, and access to the luxury of well-being). With that said, overall well-being should not be a luxury, it is a right and necessity, profitable and productive to all communities. Physical health is all too often denied to middle- and low-income families, and I want to join my city and colleagues in changing that.

Who We Serve:

Natural Measures is located centrally in a food desert area mixed with middle to low-income families. See what a recent article has noted regarding this area and the communities Natural Measures plans to serve.

"Just south of Lawrence Central High School…. 99 percent of residents are far from a grocery.…. None of the 2,700 residents have access to the grocery via a 10-minute transit trip. …. the number of households without vehicles is growing quickly here, and the nearest bus stop with quick access to a grocery is a mile away.’”http://www.savi.org/feature_report/getting-groceries-food-access-across-groups-neighborhoods-and-time/>

While Natural Measures will not offer a resolution to food access, it will collaborate with emerging neighborhood grocers and other fitness groups in the area. These partnerships will engage the community with fitness, nutrition, and overall wellbeing.

Out of the 170,000 plus residents in the combined Lawrence and nearby Warren Township areas; about thirty-six percent are African American and Latino families. I plan to target a diverse clientele, especially the aforementioned groups, between the ages of 10-50, exuding extra appeal to the 23+ groups (those in the prime of life). Natural Measures will utilize vivacious and motivating marketing techniques to educate and create community partnerships.

Why We Serve:

According to the National Institutes of Health, more than 80 percent of all Americans suffer from poor posture, a major contributor to back pain (https://nypost.com/2018/09/24/experts-say-your-posture-is-terrible-and-wrecking-your-health). Natural Measures Cycling will aid in strengthening the core and spine for an improved posture; while developing maximum energy, power, muscle coordination, and eye/body synchronization. Other benefits of this style of cycling include joint flexibility and mobility, as well as, decreased stress and body fat. Coupled with proper training, Natural Measures will help clients avoid the "plateau"; which can result from repetitive routines.

Cardiovascular fitness such as spinning also aids in reducing the effects of disease and disorders. It can help lower the blood pressure, regulate blood sugar, reduce chronic pain, and strengthen the immune system. This is crucial in this season of the pandemic crisis, as individuals with underlying health issues are at great risk. 

Why We Ask:

With the funding I am seeking, I plan to implement free and sponsored programming designed for children from the ages of 10 to 17, making my classes accessible for the entire family. This will include providing energizing, healthy snacks and drinks to my young riders, as well as free and low-cost workshops on boosting physical energy to all.

Given the current state of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is also vital that I have everything in place to provide a safe and virus free environment. We currently own 10 spin bikes and will have small classes of no more than nine riders. This will ensure that we can safely and properly social distance. I am seeking financial support to procure PPE and sanitizing materials. I would also like to consider adding plexiglass/shields between bikes as another layer of safety.

I believe this project will grow exponentially. I am seeking knowledge and information, as I foresee the possibility of future franchising. I will need funding to employ others to help me run my current and future business. This may include office management, customer service, and additional instructors. I am the sole proprietor, spin coach, and operator of Natural Measures Cycling.
