Project Description

Canopy Counseling and Consulting is experiencing unparalleled requests and opportunities for growth. Each request for services ultimately led to the various divisions under the company brand and umbrella. What started as a simple private practice has now shaped into a premier go-to resource for mental health professional services with current plans to expand to both Texas and Mississippi over the next four to five years with the current management and structure. That timeline can reasonably be moved up with the acquirement of funding and increase manpower. With the legislative passing of the Counseling Compact for Licensed Professional Counselors, it is the hope that Canopy Counseling and Consulting becomes a global brand and premier resource for mental health professional services.

WHO WE ARE

Canopy Counseling is a concierge counseling agency that services St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, and East Baton Rouge Parishes. We emphasize Adaptive Integration approaches (trademark pending) to increase the counselor/client relationship and increase the chances of successful outcomes.

Canopy is a team of professionals and professional counselors with vast knowledge and experience in the field of mental health. We believe in educating the client about their situation/condition so that they feel better about themselves and work more effectively towards successful outcomes. We believe clients are more than their diagnosis and strive to create programs and plans that would consider the “whole client” for a better therapeutic relationship.

WHAT WE DO

We offer a rapidly growing list of services specific to the needs of the client. Our therapists have a wide variety of expertise that are assessed at intake and given to the appropriate therapist based on need of the individual. We use a client centered approach to assist the client with self-actualization. Other modalities include (but not limited to):

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT)
  • Solution Based Therapy
  • Dialectal Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
  • Movie Therapy
  • Art/Writing Therapy
  • Music Therapy

HOW WE DIFFER:

At Canopy we see counseling as a process in which the client and therapist work as a team to explore and define present problem situations, develop future goals for an improved life and work in a systematic fashion toward realizing those goals.  We see the counseling relationship as one of growth, providing support in the client’s progress towards self-actualization.

At Canopy we believe that individuals are more than just their diagnosis. Too often we see individuals who feel unheard, neglected, and hopeless because the counseling process has failed them. At Canopy we look beyond the symptoms and diagnosis and EDUCATE the client about all of it and how it contributes to their current situation. We look at culture, family, belief system, and history to provide more effective treatment and more trusting relationships which ultimately lead to better outcomes and success rates. We don’t focus on the “latest mental health trend” and instead have more well-rounded experienced professionals that are skilled in all facets of therapy. While we take holistic approaches, we do not deny the benefits of medication treatment and work with physicians and psychiatrists when needed to decrease the gap in continuity of care. Our services are tailor fit from the inception of counseling for every individual. From the high profile and rich with our concierge services, to the low socioeconomic family. At Canopy Counseling and Consulting,

Staci K. Whiteside, MA, LPC-SA am the SOLE proprietary owner of Canopy Counseling and Consulting. I am a lifelong local resident living and growing up between Slidell and New Orleans since birth. I graduated from Salmen High School in 1998 where my mother taught math for over 20 years and was one of the founders for the St. Tammany Parishes Teacher Union that is still utilized today. I have been in the mental health field since 2002 earning my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Southern University and A & M College, second Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Virginia Commonwealth University and then moving back home after Katrina to finish my M.A. degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Southern University and A & M College in 2009.  I am licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) #4670 with the Louisiana LPC Board of Examiners located at 8631 Summa Avenue, Baton Rouge, LA 70809 (Phone 225/765-2515). I am a board approved supervisor of Provisional Licensed Professional Counselors (PLPCs). I also have appraisal privileges with the state (LPC-A). I am currently a Counseling Doctoral Student with a tentative completion date of December 2023.

I was trained in Forensic Psychology and Counseling under the late Ivory L. Toldson and his son Dr. Ivory A. Toldson who is listed as one of the Top 10 Forensic Psychologists in the country. He no longer practices and instead is now Tenure Professor at Howard University and serves on SEVERAL boards for Mental Health, Education, and Advocacy in Washington, DC. I have written research on Jury Decision Making, Psychopathy, and Eyewitness Testimony. My expertise are in Diagnosing, Forensic Counseling, Ethics, and Assessment. I am very well known in my field locally and have been sought to establish programs and ventures throughout the country. I have made business millions of dollars over the course of my practice and feel the time is now to do it for myself. In 2020, I decided to formalize myself as a business to provide some of those services. I have worked with several hospitals, agencies, and physicians but the demand for my services have become too great for me to continue alone. In December 2021 I took the steps to begin separating myself from being an “independent contractor” and becoming a formalized entity legally. Using money from my individual contracts I began building business credit and resources and am presently at a standstill because I lack the resources to fulfill current requested and pending contracts.
