Maestro Music Mobile
Bring music to "the street where you live"!
Project Description
The mission of Maestro Music Academy is supporting lifelong learning and growing through music education and performance. Our student-centered learning approach utilizes classical through contemporary repertoire to impart passion, excitement, and exploration of music. The process of teaching music literacy goes beyond auditory & visual and we enjoy getting into the extremes of spatial reasoning, kinesthetic learning, and somatic senses.
Right now our students want to experience music in-person, and desire the convenience of a teacher traveling to their home. We’re keeping our teachers safe and meeting students’ needs by bringing music lessons to local neighborhoods! The MusicMobile will replace our current, temporary pop-up tent studio with individual lesson rooms. By expanding to three lesson rooms over the two we used in our previous brick-and-mortar, we’ll be able to offer more scholarships to disadvantaged students and accommodate more families. Our MusicMobile will be powered by the sun using solar panels and a generator during lessons!
We’re currently working with the MicroEnterprise Services of Oregon to develop cash flow projections, and were able to purchase the needed equipment for our outdoor lessons using an SBA PPP loan, among other uses. This same equipment will go into the truck to be converted into the MusicMobile.
Bringing music into students’ lives is even more important as we recover from our period of isolation. We know that our brains learn faster when exposed to music, our bodies reset from stressed states when responding to music, and mentorship from teacher to student is vital to emotional growth & confidence.
When families aren’t able to commute to a music school because both parents or the sole parent works, Maestro MusicMobile will come to the street where they live. When families cannot afford lessons because rent and food costs continue to rise, Maestro MusicMobile will offer scholarships in partnership with the MusicLink Foundation. When students cannot sing in the school choir because that budget was cut or because Covid-19 prevents safe indoor singing, Maestro MusicMobile can open our doors and sing with ventilation.
Students at Maestro Music Academy excel in their studies because of community events such as the Summer Soiree Series in 2018 that celebrates accomplishments together. 2019-2020 explored the composer Beethoven’s life & music with a giant Bingo board of musical challenges (turned digital during quarantine), and Fall 2021 begins our Travel Around the World to learn about music in underrepresented cultures from Ghana to Peru and beyond.

The Campaign FAQs
What is a “music mobile”?
Just like the ice cream truck that used to travel to your neighborhood, the MusicMobile will travel into local neighborhoods to teach music lessons.
How many people will be in the teaching room?
Individual lessons are one student - one teacher. Cohort small groups may be 3-6 students with one teacher.
How many teaching rooms will be in this truck?
Three!
What instruments do you teach?
Our highly qualified instructors teach piano, voice, guitar, ukulele, and violin.
Will the MusicMobile be loud?
No! The ventilation and instruments will be powered by solar panels and a solar generator, which produces less decibels than a diesel generator and is much better for the environment.
Where will the MusicMobile travel?
In Phase B of our re-opening post covid-quarantine, we’ve been teaching in neighborhoods near Portland, OR in Aloha, Bethany, Progress Ridge, Sandy, and Tanasbourne. The MusicMobile will add additional locations in Phase C of our re-opening, including one specifically low-income area for scholarship-only lessons.
