Lula's On Wheels

Yaslyn Lora, MPH, is a Dominican- American first generation entrepreneur. Her mother Lula was only five years old when she began cooking for her grandparents, aunts, and uncles. She, too, was about the same age when she first fell in love with it. She learned that in her family and culture, tradition is what kept families whole and alive. 

Dominican roots and global flavors heavily influence Yaslyn Lora and the team behind Lula's Empanadas. After two successful years with a catering business, #LulaLovers in New Jersey and Philadelphia will soon enjoy Lula's On-Wheels, a mobile empanada trailer by Lula's Empanadas! 

The food experience is all about bringing people together and having conversations and connections with people from every walk of life. So with that in mind, Lula's On-Wheels will be starting their journey as an event trailer, offering their beloved Dominican flavors with a twist at backyard parties with friends and family, to more significant gatherings like weddings, local games, markets, and much more.  

Their goal for this campaign is to raise over $10,000 to build/buy a trailer, as well as to start payments for a dual fuel-powered gasoline/propane generator, for an additional $1,000. The team hopes that once they reach their goal, they'll be able to purchase the dual generator, allowing them to do outdoor events more often and visit new neighborhoods! 

Lula’s Empanadas focuses on authentic Dominican empanadas with a twist of contemporary flavors. But the ultimate goal of Lula’s is to launch Lula’s Foundation as a way to give back—and provide mentorship, community events, and outreach programs for Black and brown children to explore culturally relevant experiences related to their identity and, social, domestic, and global issues.
