La Ruta de las Aves

I was born in the South of Chile, surrounded by nature.

Therefore, since childhood I learned to respect our planet Earth.

Later on, I had the opportunity to travel around the world and to discover its wonders.

By doing this, I became extremely sad observing men’s disconnection from nature.

I realized how this behaviour is causing the extinction of so many species, being one of the most threatened ones the migratory birds.

During the last 45 years their number has decreased by 40% due to the systematical destruction without any consciousness or consideration of their habitats and the wetlands where they rest to recover, feed and get energy during their journeys.

For sure, climate change as well as building projects and worse, the contamination by plastics in the oceans and on the beaches are some of the main threats for their survival.

The wetlands are essential for mitigating climate change as they absorb large amounts of carbon, and they also host almost half of the species that inhabit the planet Earth.

With La Ruta de las Aves I will unite the network of wetlands in Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia and Chile that are the important transitional stations for these birds. I have selected fifteen wetlands where me, and all the people that want to participate, will clean the ecosystem segregating waste and promoting environmental education workshops at schools and for the local neighbors.

I estimate a total of five thousand students who I want to educate and sensitize with special emphasis on our way of consuming and promoting the circular economy and the local consumption.

This is a Carbon Neutral project that is aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SNG) and will be broadcast on the social media channels.
