A fun new art experience in Graham, NC; 64 Harvard brings a new twist to expert framing and adds art to a vibrant downtown community.
Project Description
It’s time to make my own path and claim my own space. I'm opening a frame shop! I'm excited to use my talents in creating this space for our community, a custom frame shop in the business of preserving memories and creating art.
About 64 Harvard:
64 Harvard is an exciting and modern custom frame shop and gallery. This will be a space for the community and artists to come together, all while providing framing expertise on projects large and small.
About Renee':
During my time in Boston I worked as a framer, and as an artist myself I understand the issues artists face when it comes to finding budget-friendly frame solutions. I fell in love with Graham in 2016 and decided to buy a home here. Since that time I've worked with on a variety of different art projects and volunteered for the City of Graham, all in hopes to add a bit more beauty and art to this already vibrant community. Now I am excited to bring a modern custom frame shop and gallery to Graham, NC and provide another source for artists to preserve and enhance their work. 64 Harvard will be an extension of the work I've already done within the community; it will be a place where everyone is welcome and brought together around art.
Where we’ll be:
64 Harvard will be located downtown Graham. I love Graham and I'm excited to contribute to this community in a new way. We’ll work with local creatives and makers and definitely look forward to seeing people at a variety of community events and festivals.
Our values:
We believe in being conscious consumers and shopping with intention. 64 Harvard will work to reduce our waste as much as possible, one of the ways we will do this is by having a makers' bin which will sell usable materials for a low-cost bulk pricing. We also believe in connecting art and the community, so we will focus on providing a space for local artists to share and sell their artwork.
Our ask:
I've personally invested a lot in framing equipment and other things for 64 Harvard but I need your help for it to be fully realized. $35,000 will cover 12 months of space rental and secure the business if it runs with low profit during start up. It’s a scary time to open a brick + mortar but I'm committed to being a safe and bright spot in our community. I know once 64 Harvard becomes a part of our community it will quickly be a space that's been there forever and will be a staple as time goes on.
Your support will help us:

+ Build displays and tables
+ Purchase a register and point-of-sale system
+ Purchase furniture and lighting
+ Purchase and prepare our inventory
+ Purchase inventory from other sustainable, women, LGBTQ+, and minority-owned small businesses
+ Purchase non-glamourous necessities like packaging, shipping, and cleaning supplies
+ Purchase things we haven’t thought of yet but will need
Our timeline:
A pop-up of 64 Harvard will open once we hit the $5,000 mark. This will allow us to fundraise and provide services faster. The goal is to continue to raise funds so that we can secure the space for a longer-term lease commitment. Rewards will begin to be fulfilled after August 1st.

How will you be spending the money?

Have you tried getting other funding already?
I have talked with banks and due to my student loan debt I am not qualified to take out any sort of loan or line of credit. Grants are an excellent option and I have applied for some already (chances are low since the applicants are abundant), but most require a business to already be established.
