Have you ever wondered how much your smartphone could actually benefit your mental health? 

Turns out your smartphone can be utilized as an effective therapeutic tool that promotes better mental and behavioral health in your everyday life. 

Regina and I wanted to take advantage of this and merge it with our passion for mental health and wellbeing.

That’s why we decided to create our company Mendü, a digital self care company dedicated to helping the community of women of color thrive in their everyday lives. 

We’re a team of a therapist and a neuroscientist working in a hospital mental health ward, who have both struggled with our personal mental health in the past. We know from personal and professional experience that finding help is not easy. We started this journey by posting events on Eventbrite to see if there were other people who felt the same way, and were surprised that over 200 women showed up. Clearly, they were looking for something that they could not find in the market. They wanted someone to TALK to (note: not text) to feel better. And this is not an uncommon problem: 1 in 4 adults have diagnosable mental health symptoms in a given year but 55% can’t find help that suits them, even though they want it. So naturally we asked ourselves: how can we provide a therapist for people to actually have a conversation with?

We plan on doing this through Our digital talking therapy app, so that every person can access a therapist to talk to..*It’s a way to recreate the therapy room experience, at home,* so that people can live a fulfilling life.

Mendü allows users to talk to a digital therapist at the click of a button. Our initial focus is on the market that is most likely to have poor mental health but are digitally savvy and actively looking for a solution, yet currently underserved. Gen-z and millennial women of colour with mild to moderate symptoms, who’s poor mental health stems from issues that are currently overlooked by mainstream mental health services. 

*Over time, we want to expand to the 300M people in the developed world who experience diagnosable symptoms annually. Because everyone deserves an easily accessible and engaging therapist. 

In terms of traction, we have already built a good consumer base for our company with us currently testing our beta version of 140 users and having a collective audience of 7000 people through our newsletter and social media. 

We have collaborated with groups such as Mental health UK, Gal-dem & Therapy for Black Girls.

And We have raised money for our company in the past through grants from: Red Bull, UBS, WeWork and Santader.

Our company’s main focus is our digital product, the Mendu app. This product offers digital talk therapy and self-care tools as a service, while maintaining a strong focus on consumer brand. 

Pricing is based on competitor pricing while keeping in mind the cost of sessions with human therapists.

We are currently utilizing a Freemium subscription model. For premium content: $59 / year or $5.99 /month. The user will get an 83% discount for referring a friend who signs up in the first year, and a 20% discount for every friend who signs up in subsequent years.

And with help from someone like you, we intend to be able to create the final product, gain 10,000 users and get ready for a clinical trial.
