Project Description
It's a She Thing, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to turning life's trials into triumphs for women and girls. Founded by mother-daughter duo Veronica Loomis and Mikayla Barnett, It's a She Thing has reached hundreds of women and girls in New York and beyond through our monthly She Talks, community outreach, and annual Empowerment Camp for Girls. Both our SheMatters Resource Fund and COVID-19 Relief Fund have helped countless families overcome financial hurdles, and our Willie Mae Loomis Scholarship has celebrated the academic excellence of high school and college graduates in our community. Currently, we are working toward establishing both a transitional home and subsidized grocery program for women and girls in need and are tracking to accomplish both in the second half of 2021.

1. What are some of the services you provide?
We have 4 campaigns: 1. Willie Mae Loomis Memorial Scholarship, an annual scholarship awarded to a deserving high school graduate to help defray college expenses; 2. SheMatters Resources helps women and girls with restraining orders, locksmith services, emergency shelter and funding; 3. Community engagement and 4. Empowerment Camp for Girls, a two-week summer program empowering girls to become leaders. Some of the courses are entrepreneurship, nutrition and health, social media impact, theater, art and dance.
2. Is there a fee associated with your services?
Most of our services are free of charge. Our Empowerment Camp fees are on a sliding scale.
3. Where are your headquarters?
The organization is based in Brooklyn, NY. However, we serve the entire Metropolitan area and provide online services globally.
