Project Description

134°F Cosmetics was launched in 2019 by Nikki and Kelli Sumlin, a sister duo who shares a love for lipstick. As we progressed into adulthood, we noticed that some of our favorite lipstick brands failed to connect with women of color, specifically from the onset of the “shopping experience”. Therefore this was an opportunity for us to develop a cosmetics company that operates upon a mantra of “brand pride. Meaning when a customer spots our product online or on a shelf the initial introduction of our product is visual. The 134°F lipstick tube bares the image of a woman of color.

The purpose of this image is to create a relationship with our customers that has traction and meaning. This is our way of providing recognition to women of color, including our promise in offering lipstick colors that embrace the beauty of their skin tones. Lastly, we recognize that women of color have beautiful variations of skin tones. Therefore, we offer a portfolio of highly pigmented lip colors made exclusively for these skin tones. Overall our goal is to offer our shoppers a personable and unique shopping experience with 134°F Cosmetics.

Funding will be used to cover focus group/beta testing costs along with updating our website with professional photos. In addition, funding will be used to purchase additional lipstick inventory. Lastly, we’re excited to announce that 134FCOSMETICS was selected by Hulu to participate in their beta advertising campaign program. Funding will be used to create an ad campaign on Hulu.
