Project Description

Ice shows are very important for Premier Skating Academy and in skating in general! We typically do two shows a year~ a holiday show and a spring show. Shows are very similar to a dance recital or a theatre production but on ice! Shows  are very fun for skaters, they get to skate to music and do numbers they wouldn’t do in competitive skating. It helps bolster their enthusiasm for skating, and for skaters who decide to go into professional figure skating, this is a great opportunity for them to start getting a taste of what it’s like! It also helps skaters learn to work together and to meet new skaters!

Shows also give us an opportunity to reach out to other organizations to skate in our shows (i.e. other figure skating groups, hockey groups, etc.) so our shows help us build relationships with other organizations and give their skaters opportunities as well.

Show are important to help us be involved and reach out to the community to gain support, and they are a great way for us to generate funds. We gain income from the ticket sales and from the registration fee that skaters pay to be in the show.

But since we are an ice arena that has not had a lot of shows, we have no curtains! Curtains are very important for shows! Skaters can go in and out of them to enhance their performance, it makes the event more exciting so more skaters want to be involved and so more spectators want to come!

We have found curtains that are perfect for us to hang from the beams of our ice arena, and they fit all the needs of a skating show! They are easy for us to hang up and take down, they are made from polyester with PVC backsing so they look elegant but are also waterproof and heavy duty, and we can hang them so they do not drag on the ice. By us purchasing the curtains we save lots of money (than renting pipe and drapes), and this is a long term investment, and we will be able to use the curtains fro many years to come!

Please help us create great memories and fun for skaters while also enhancing our business!

At Premier Skating Academy we strive to make the figure skating and the skating community a better place that gives more opportunities to more skaters. We are a new business, though the owner has over 20 years of experience in figures getting coaching, and we aim to provide as many opportunities as we can for the skaters at our new location. This is a huge opportunity, because after 20 years of being in the figure skating coaching world, the owner knows the real issues in figure skating that are hampering skaters from being as successful as they could be, and we have this really wonderful opportunity to work towards better solutions for these problems so more youth and adults can enjoy skating! One of our features is providing high quality small group training for young figure skaters. This keeps the sport cost effective as young figure skaters decide upon their path in skating. In other figure skating organizations, skaters would be paying thousands more dollars per year to take private lessons since that is the only way they are able to obtain that level of training. We have already seen skaters accomplish many goals and learn lots of skills and become medalists at higher levels of competition in just a few short years with our method. It also produces happier and more eager skaters and parents since skaters like being with each other and parents are paying reasonable amounts for their young children to be in figure skating.

However, since the facility is new to figure skating, we are endeavoring to provide the equipment, classes and ice time that skaters need to achieve their goals. Within this next year, we have negotiations and contracts that will be finalized that will help us to become more financially secure, but we would greatly appreciate some financial help within this next year to help us continue to flourish. We are growing and expanding and want to continue to do that!

We also have a bigger mission at Premier Skating Academy; to begin to form cooperatives or relationships with other skating groups so we can partner together on resources so we can all be stronger together. We are in an area of the U.S. that is dominated by hockey so the more figure skaters begin to partner and pool resources, the more ice time, classes and other opportunities we can provide for figure skaters! In this area, figure skaters struggle to get their needs met because hockey dominates the ice time and arenas and a lot figure skating organizations are small and do not work together. Then skaters drop out of the sport or leave to train elsewhere where there are more opportunities, though that is all possible right in our area with a few changes and some cooperation!

We are staffed by two full-time coaches, including the owner who’s had twenty years of experience in developing grassroots skaters to national levels of competition. We have other full and part-time coaches who work with us as independent contractors, though we will be needing more full-time coaches within the next year. We also provide job opportunities for professional skaters who need work when they are in between show contracts. All of the staff we work with have extensive knowledge in figure skating and are considered some of the best trained instructors in figure skating, ballet, physical therapy or whatever discipline they are hired for. We also train and mentor young figure skating coaches so that they can become successful in such a specialized industry.
