Help Me Make an Album; music to heal the soul

The Mission

You matter. You are Loved. Your story deserves to be told.

All I've ever wanted to do was love on and encourage people using my words and my art.

The Loved Letter Project is centered around taking the letters, stories, thoughts and questions people have and making art from them and for them.

Using multiple mediums, such as poetry, visual art, prose, photography, music, soundscapes, and/or a mash-up of any or all of them, I hope to spread love, inspiration, encouragement or just a nod to say “I see you” to them and the world.

I have always been fascinated with the stories, dreams, aspirations and beauty of others.

Our Stories are Works of Art making up a beautiful tapestry.

Why not share it? Why not make something beautiful from them to share with the world?

I am taking to the road in my RV to spread love one song, story and piece of artwork at a time. With this project I will hold a virtual  concert at every stop in this tour where music is recorded to speak to the pain, soul and stories of other people.

The Black experience founded this country. It literally shaped this nation, yet so many stories go untold. Even our relationship with nature has been tainted due to the traumas we've faces in this country.

The vision for this tour was to gather Black voices, Black souls and experiences to rest, recuperate and heal through music, conversation and art.

Though I cannot physically gather people together in nature safely during COVID, my aim is to do it virtually, for now. 

The Vision

The multifaceted Black voice and experience is beautiful. It is a harmonious song that longs to be told.

Unfortunately, many of us haven't had the opportunity to really explore these conversations safely. With this tour my hope is that someone sees art, hears a story and music that they can resonate with to heal, connect and finally tell their truth.

I will be making music with themes around self love, self care, healing, storytelling and the many faces of the Black experience.

From my own and shared experiences, I will also be writing poetry, prose and love letters to Black folks as a healing tool for myself and a path to healing for others.

My photography will serve as a way to capture the beautiful beings of Black folks in this Country as well as the majestic and beautiful wonders in this land.

This project is part art, part documentary and part journalistic. All parts come together to tell a beautiful story at the end.

My Art

My music tells a story and soothes the soul. It's a warm hug when you're down. It's a friendly smile when you're lonely. It's a resting place when you're weary. It's a belly full of laughter, a cup of warm tea and a safe place to lay your burdens down.

It is healing.

I've dedicated my life to creating art that tells the truth.  I have spent my life creating safe spaces for people to be seen and heard and understood.

The photos I take of people and places moves those who drink them in. It brings out the soul of the being and causes you to reflect on your own life's experiences.

When I write, I aim to be as honest as possible. I know how life changing literature can be. I know what it feels like to read something from a writer and wonder if they knew you deeply. That's how I want my writing to feel to other people. Familiar, close and intimate.

Connection through community is everything to me. Through conversation with individuals alike and different, I'm able to learn, grow, empathize. Everyone has a story. I want to share my platform with others so they can share theirs too.

I am not self made. Community is how I became to be. I know that I am the sum of those who came before me, influenced me, loved me and hurt me. Those experiences made me who I am today. So I know that I can only reach my goal with communal support.

The message that rings true throughout all of my mediums of artistic expression is: YOU MATTER.

How You Can Help

Firstly, thank you so much for even reading this far. Your attention means so much to me. There are so many people you could be paying attention to, and you chose me!

This project is a labor of love. I would do this for FREE, but we all know things cost money.  To be honest with you, asking for monetary support is awkward for me, but I so believe in this mission and I believe that many lives will be touched and changed through this project.

Through jobs, gig work, crowdfunding, generosity, content creation and sales, I hope to raise 50,000 for the journey ahead. The number above is my goal but whether or not I reach that goal, I will still take to the road with the hopes of making money on the road:

Here is a breakdown of where the money will go:

• Gas: My RV gets 9 Miles Per Gallon, and towing a car behind me I'll only get about 6 miles per gallon... so yes. Gas will come with a HEFTY price tag
• New Tires for the RV: The first time I RV'd full time, we had 3 (THREEEEE!) tire blowouts. We were not prepared and our tires were old.  I need to replace the tires to remain safe on the road
• Food, Lodging and RV Stay: For the most part, I plan on staying in Free places to boondock (WalMart Parking lots, Cracker Barrels, BLM Land, etc.), but sometimes we may need to pay an RV park to have somewhere to stay.
• A cushion for emergencies: One thing I learned on the road is that things happen (remember the three tires that exploded?). In order for us to not be stranded, my goal is to have a small safety cushion in case something happens in travel, or during a stay, or during a performance.
• Gear and Sound Equipment: We have most of the instruments and technology we need for the road, but we will need special equipment to be able to live stream, record music and share with you all as I create.

My Team

As I mentioned before, I know that I am not self made. My husband helps me out with any and everything that may go wrong, and pushes me to create honestly and to remain prolific.

Our's is a two man show, that could use more hands in the future. But for now, we're all we got! 

Everything you experience; recording, mixing and mastering the music, taking and editing photos, writing and publishing literary works, curating communities, setting up performances, shooting and editing videos, recording and editing podcasts, developing personal projects is done without a label or backing. This is DIY with limited resources and hard work.

Though the process is beautiful, it can also be difficult. Your support would help us alleviate some of the stress that comes along with being a DIY and independent artist.
