Project Description

Smoothin' & Groovin' is a local, 1970's inspired smoothie and juice bar. We believe that health and good vibes are where it's at and do our very best to make everything with love, passion and, of course, good vibes. While we serve an extensive menu, you might find what we do unique. We are located in a booming college town in Searcy, Arkansas, but we believe in breaking that "southern" stereotype. This is why we are a completely plant-based establishment. From our smoothies and juices to our salads and sandwiches, we believe in being as allergy, gluten, and (always) earth friendly as possible.  We use only compostable take out containers and cutlery to ensure our part of being as earth friendly as we can. Smoothin' & Groovin' is dedicated to helping our community, not only with each item on our menu being nutritious and beneficial, but also helping those that provide for us, like working with local farmers. We use local vendors for most of our products, and believe that one way we can spread good vibes is serving others. We make everything from scratch, fresh and use mostly organic products to ensure clean eating. To us, Smoothin' isn't just a restaurant. It's a movement, a safe space, a place where everyone feels welcomed, and of course, where people know they can always get a truly healthy meal. Our goal is to provide and spread good vibes.

Now the why: When I was young, my father was the cook of the house. He taught me how to have a good relationship with food and to truly love the process of what goes into a simple meal. Dad would always come up with these insanely delicious items and our family just couldn't resist. He made his own seasonings, (some we use at the store), sauces and anything you could think of. We always knew when he was in the kitchen because the house smelled phenomenal. His love for cooking was definitely passed down, and it was something we shared. I learned so much from him and am extremely thankful for the opportunity to do so. When I told him about my idea for Smoothin' he laughed and shook his head, saying "it's going to be hard, but you can do it." His confidence in me has helped and motivated me especially on the tough days. In 2017, he was diagnosed with Corticobasal Degeneration, a rare form of Parkinson's. The doctor gave him 4-6 years.  While cooking is not an option for him anymore, Smoothin' is my way of honoring and providing for him. My parents have been a huge rock and so supportive for this and it would be such an honor to be able to provide for them and allow them to be home and just be together. We opened in 2020 and are hoping to continue this love and passion for years and years to come. Family is strong, and we believe food brings you even closer. Help us extend our family, because every customer that we serve, becomes just that.

In the time we've been open, we've run into a few bumps in the road. (I mean, who hasn't right?) A couple weeks after the lease was signed, my mother lost her job due to Covid. While this was extra encouragement to make it the best we could, it hasn't been the easiest. (There is so much more that I could put here but I'll try to make this quick.) This past weekend, we had another fridge go out, making that 2 fridges and 1 large freezer, out of service. To be honest with you, this is not what we had envisioned when we approached our one year of being open. I would love to spread the word about our place and do a community outreach as well as providing nutritional help and information for those who have questions about healthy and clean eating. I didn't want to open a "healthy establishment" unless I truly knew it was just that and knew the benefits for all of our options. A goal that we still have is being able to produce and distribute cold-press juices. With that, we could reach more areas like schools, local restaurants, events, and so much more. We purchased a camper to be able to sell juices and smoothies out of at events, but because of having to pick and choose which bill we pay first, the camper was put on the backburner. Smoothin' means so much to us and is growing in popularity in our sweet hometown. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to put in any money towards updating, fixing, or expanding until we get past this hurdle. Helping in any way, gives us the opportunity to spread love, good vibes and expand our family. It would allow us to update and fix necessary equipment as well as catch up on bills that we have had to push aside to make sure we had products to sell. We appreciate everything and everyone that have put in time, money and prayers and are thankful of the opportunities that we have been blessed with. 85% of small businesses fail within the first five years. Help us not be a part of that statistic. Thank you!
