Finally...support teachers deserve!

In 2020, when the pandemic upended education globally, teachers that I knew and some I didn't,  were reaching out  for guidance and mentorship because they found out that I was named the Texas Secondary Teacher of the Year for Region 20.  I tried to help my peers anyway I could, but if I did not have the bandwidth or particular knowledge for what they needed, I would find other recognized teachers to match them with. When I saw how many teachers were craving that personalized support that we are expected to provide our students, I knew that they needed their own village to raise them up in a difficult but impactful career. They also needed help from top-notch teachers who are in the 'trenches' and not instructional coaches who do not realize how much changes year after year(especially during COVID).

In 2021, the mission of Bmyvillage was born to provide our K-12 teachers the individualized support that often so many schools are unable to provide.  By matching teachers(our clients) with successful, recognized teachers(our coaches) who are currently

in the classroom at a time and date convenient for both, our algorithm gives struggling teachers that personalized support  the school expects them to give their students. Bmyvillage is kind of like a dating app, but without all the baggage!

In 2019, 34% of all teachers were thinking about leaving the field and after the pandemic started, that number is now 54% and growing.  Almost 50% of new teachers leave the field in the first 5 years.  

Why? Let's take a look:

• "One-size-fits all" teacher professional development is all M. Perez gets even though they are the only Mexican-American studies teacher in their high school.
• Mr. Chen needs help balancing the demands of after-school mandatory duties and the guilt of being a single father having to keep his daughter in after-school day care even longer.
• Miss Nayek  spends up to $2,000 every year of her own money attending Adobe Photoshop training because she is the only Digital Arts teacher in her high school.
• Mr. Schreiber wants training to be a better teacher for her gender-nonconforming students, but the school does not offer it.

In the U.S. alone, it is projected that in 2029 there will be over 4 million teachers in the U.S. In the world, as of now, there are about 85 million teachers according to the worldbank.org.

Since Bmyvillage started, the goal was to make these 1:1 virtual sessions affordable for the teacher clients to purchase on their own while paying the teacher coaches what they are worth.  As we continue to do that, our growth has resulted in school districts realizing they need additional help to retain and support their teacher and now wanting to purchase sessions for their teachers in bulk.

With this new B2B model, we are needing to grow our team to manage large school district accounts, hire someone to handle the technology to maintain the growth, and begin marketing to a global market. The funding will spur that momentum to help as many teachers as possible.

Currently on the team is myself as the founder and CEO and my the first coach I ever hired, who was the 2021 Massachusetts teacher of the year, who helps with recruiting award-winning, outstanding teachers to become our coaches.
