Empowering Diverse Women in Literature
Diverstories is a soon-to-be 501(c)3 that brings stories written by BIPOC authors to Little Free Libraries, classrooms, and organizations
Project Description
Diverstories is a Black woman-run (soon-to-be) nonprofit that seeks to amplify Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) voices in literature.
We do this by bringing stories written by BIPOC authors and featuring BIPOC characters to Little Free Libraries, classrooms, and organizations across the US. We believe that all children deserve to see themselves represented in literature. Our work relies on donations to purchase books from Black-owned bookstores and send them across the country to turn Little Free Libraries into Little Free DIVERSE Libraries for schools, neighborhoods, and community centers.
Three times each year, we host major fundraisers during times that hold meaning and relevance to our cause. As a woman-run organization, we believe that Women's History Month is an important time to support and honor BIPOC female empowerment through literature.
With the help of your donations, we will be able to continue donating books to Little Free Diverse Libraries (LFDLs) across the US and to send new LFDLs to communities in need.
Breaking down the numbers:
The cost to send and fill a LFDL with 20 books is $600. The cost of the book box is $350, and 20 books costs $250.
Our goal? Buy and fill 10 Little Free Diverse Libraries for Title I schools across the US!
As we look to the future of Diverstories, we hope that these fundraisers will continue to support our important mission and provide access to quality and diverse literature for every community in the US.
