Project Description

Sewing is a way to create things for people. These things include physical items but also ideas like a personal image or self-esteem.  By sewing things, I can help others. The act of assisting people in finding their true selves inspires me.

My previous company was named Past Present Future Stitching. I did alterations and custom work. I want to focus more on sustainability in costuming and fashion.

If I receive financial support from others, I will use the money to expand. For example, I want to hire an assistant for 10-20 hours per week at $20/hour. I will use a woman-owned local business to advertise on social media for $500/month. I will also use a local BIPOC owned business to make a tv-grade commercial for $2500, with two different lengths available. I will use the rest to cover my overhead of $1500/mo, which will enable me to focus solely on growing my business.

I want to rebrand my business to be a smaller company under a giant corporation. The more prominent brand will be Moore You, abbreviating M.Y. I will have MY Stitching, MY Styling, MY Clothing, and MY Modeling. MY Stitching will continue to provide eco-friendly alterations and custom work. MY Styling will strive to style people for their wardrobes and events using designers from the Pacific Northwest and eco-friendly brands. MY Clothing will provide genderless clothing that is eco-friendly and tailored. Finally, MY Modeling will be an alternative modeling agency in the PNW to help brands find diversity in their advertising.

One of the other things I want to do is start a non-profit to accompany the podcast that I am already recording. My podcast is called The Other Creatives. I interview female, femme-oriented, and non-binary creatives to promote them and build community. People in those groups are at a disadvantage to succeeding in a creative career due to a lack of equal recognition and business/leadership skills. The non-profit would be promoting these professionals and offering educational opportunities to encourage more entrepreneurs and increase the success rates in larger corporations.
