Project Description

I am the sole proprietor of the Bald and Bougie Co. My mission is to help bald women and women with little to no hair (baldies), feel more comfortable and confident in their own skin. Many women have lost their hair and are unable to grow it back. In today's society, hair is the standard.  When women have been told that they needed hair to be accepted, it makes them feel uncomfortable to be around other people or even go out in public. In the past and even now, we have seen women walk around with a scarf on their bald head because they are afraid of being judged by complete strangers. Having a company that is dedicated mostly toward bald women will help us feel more inclusive and accepted. The problem I see is that hair could be the actual thing that is holding a woman back.

Seven years ago I was getting up 45 minutes early everyday, just to style my hair. Most days I was actually crying because my hair was thinning and wasn't doing what I wanted it to. Oftentimes I was unable to style my hair due to a hand injury from years prior. One day, I decided to buy clippers and just cut it all off. I was so excited the next morning that I had an extra 45 minutes to myself; I felt like a weight had been lifted off of my shoulders. Styling hair was something that I didn't have to worry about anymore and I felt way more confident in everything that I was doing.

The one thing that most bald women can't get pass are the nasty or rude comments made. At times, I have been mistaken as a male or asked why I cut off all of my hair. I've come up with the answer of "if you were expected to wake up every morning and style your hair, wouldn't you just cut it off?" When I rock products from the Bald and Bougie Co. they make me feel more confident when I'm around others. I want people to know that they are in the presence of a fearless bald woman. Can you imagine the power women can have when we have nothing but confidence?

Even though there are women who cannot grow their hair back, I can see my market size expanding toward all women. I only say this because you never know when a woman just wants to cut off her hair. Even if they want to do a big chop and rock a buzz cut for a few months, they will be able to wear the Bald and Bougie Co. in that time. They will always have their merch to remind them of the time that they "started over". I can remember my mother cutting her hair off several times in my lifetime. You can always become a customer of the Bald and Bougie Co, whether you have hair today or not.

I believe that this is more of a movement than just a one time thing. Bald is the new black; it is the thing that most women want but are afraid of their peers. Every woman wants to be able to wear a buzz cut or look cute with a bald head. It's always "I wonder if I could pull off a bald head".

I am seeking funding to help with ad marketing and to promote brand awareness. The funds received will be put into ad marketing to turn a profit and would be invested right back into ad marketing. Some of the funds would be used to order samples for brand ambassadors which will help with brand awareness. The only thing my business lacks is funding. Being able to pump out designs is one thing, but if nobody knows you exist, it is hard to make a profit.

I would like to thank you all in advance for any contributions made toward this movement. I hope to see some of you rocking the cut.
